00:00:24 <escapethe3ra[m]> I am aware of Gitlab limitations and the whole migration discussion, but is it not important to allow anonymous contributors access and get involved with the core repositories?
00:01:42 <escapethe3ra[m]> s/contributors/contributor/, s/and/to/, s/get involved with//
00:04:10 <escapethe3ra[m]> It might not be a pressing issue to existing devs, especially if they are using clearnet or a tor > vpn setup. But that is not the case for new contributors. They get to deal with Microsoft's "love" for Tor, privacy and Monero. Yeah.
00:04:50 <escapethe3ra[m]> * for new anon contributors. They
00:17:02 <crypto_grampy[m]> > <@escapethe3ra:matrix.org> > would be really cool to have a decentralized or self-hosted github-like instance for monero-ecosystem projects
00:17:02 <crypto_grampy[m]> >
00:17:02 <crypto_grampy[m]> > I might do it, getting sick of Microsoft Github and their captcha hell for tor users. They flagged my account twice and now I can't even send a support ticket, they don't accept emails.
00:17:02 <crypto_grampy[m]> Came across this today: https://codeberg.org/pluja/monero.boats
00:17:23 <crypto_grampy[m]> gitea is cool
00:17:29 <crypto_grampy[m]> * gitea is cool too
00:18:11 <escapethe3ra[m]> Yes I am aware of both alternatives
00:18:15 <crypto_grampy[m]> not sure how codeberg is funded
00:19:08 <escapethe3ra[m]> non-profit association Codeberg e. V.
00:20:45 <escapethe3ra[m]> * e. V. from Germany
00:21:29 <escapethe3ra[m]> but self hosting is the way to go
00:25:13 <Torr> escapethe3ra[m]: Why don't u use Cgit?
00:27:28 <escapethe3ra[m]> I didn't recommend any specific software and the current consensus is to remain on Github
00:28:35 <escapethe3ra[m]> But we can and should reconsider hosting the core repos on GH IMHO
00:32:24 <escapethe3ra[m]> This was the last lengthy discussion about this topic AFAIK https://github.com/monero-project/meta/issues/236
00:36:47 <Torr> LOL
00:36:57 <Torr> Marvellous title.
04:18:50 <localmonero05> Revuo Issue 102: Jan 02-09, 2022. https://localmonero.co/revuo/weekly/102
04:19:23 <localmonero05> https://teddit.net/r/Monero/comments/rzhiu4/revuo_issue_102/
07:11:50 <spirobel[m]> <escapethe3ra[m]> "non-profit association Codeberg..." <- I was in their matrix channel a while ago asking how they manage the lack of repo size limits in gitea. Seems like they dont. I think it is cool that stuff like this exists, but it has its limitations. If you have code you really care about you should probably host your own gitea instance.
07:14:54 <spirobel[m]> <escapethe3ra[m]> "This was the last lengthy..." <- makes a lot of sense. I compared self hosted git servers a while ago. I liked gitea the most. Gitlab has a bunch of issues and the company behind it is not really an upgrade compared to github.
19:38:23 <bridgerton[m]> <ian.niculescu> Is there a solution to antiviruses stopping you from downloading the GUI ? we can't onboard normies
20:24:38 <carrington[m]> Unfortunately that would require convincing the antivirus companies to remove Monero URLs from their blocking lists
20:25:00 <carrington[m]> They block them because of cryptojacking malware
20:39:01 <ZombieMaster[m]1> <bridgerton[m]> "<ian.niculescu> Is there a..." <- maybe onboard with feather/monerujo?
22:09:41 <escapethe3ra[m]> <spirobel[m]> "I was in their matrix channel..." <- Yes, I agree. Wasn't recommending them, just looking into alternatives at this point. We should at least attempt to reignite conversations around migration from GH periodically, as new developments might occur.
23:07:30 <xmrscott[m]> <bridgerton[m]> "<ian.niculescu> Is there a..." <- Promote Linux
23:08:06 <xmrscott[m]> Plenty of normie friendly distros out there at this point and with Monero on FlatHub pretty easy to get Monero regardless of distro
