01:59:56 I am running a Monero node in Ubuntu with CLI, and I am not able to connect remotely. The daemon shows as running and up to date. I turned off my VPN, put on Port Forwarding to 18081 in my router settings, set up Windows Defender Firewall and UFW in the node itself, and have turned off my VPN (though I'd prefer to put it back on if I can figure this out)>>> can't seem to get things going 02:00:40 Any tips how to troubleshoot? I am using Cake Wallet, but it doesn't seem to be Cake that is the problem, but some other aspects of the settings... 02:03:33 https://matrix.monero.social/_matrix/media/v1/download/monero.social/XALMTCjeawIAoWeeShEiqwaV 02:03:38 China banned getmonero.org 02:03:50 <123bob123:matrix.org> You allowed ports through ufw? 02:03:57 China banned getmonero.org 02:03:59 https://gfwatch.org/ 02:50:15 I believe so: 02:50:17 To Action From 02:50:19 -- ------ ---- 02:50:21 22/tcp ALLOW Anywhere 02:50:23 18080/tcp ALLOW Anywhere 02:50:25 18089/tcp ALLOW Anywhere 02:50:27 18080 ALLOW Anywhere 02:50:29 Using: sudo ufw status 02:52:52 I was told that it is a bad idea to use RPC for nodes, is it possible to use Tor addresses for nodes? Or how can I set up my Cake wallet to remotely check my node? Is there a different approach? 03:46:56 Great! 04:07:47 prifin: I am a bit confused. Running a node in Ubuntu, but set up Windows Defender Firewall? Port forwarded 18081 in your router, but 18081 has no entry in ufw? 04:08:50 For running a node that you can connect to remotely, you want restricted rpc. I would reference this guide to see how this is typically done: sethforprivacy.com/guides/run-a-monero-node-advanced/ 04:09:53 An easy check is to use canyouseeme.org 04:15:13 By default, unrestricted rpc is 18081. You do not want to make unrestricted rpc public. What (I think) you want is RESTRICTED rpc, which will allow you to connect remotely. 04:17:06 I am not sure how you are configuring monerod, but I think launching with "--rpc-restricted-bind-port 18089" is the answer you are looking for. 05:33:12 <321bob321:monero.social> They are matrix LN 05:33:20 <321bob321:monero.social> So they wont see it 07:44:05 https://ccs.getmonero.org/ideas/ 07:46:25 hinto's research into market rates https://gist.github.com/hinto-janai/8ce1d4847f51304aa4d71c3614408d7f 07:56:18 do we need hard expiry dates for proposals that request market rates? especially if they are actively seeking employment (16 offers in hintos case). if they receive an offer they cant refuse then we're left hanging 10:27:45 <321bob321:monero.social> The example goes from 100k to 200k 10:32:08 <321bob321:monero.social> Also lol @ dropbox. Is there a different platform I can access this chat through if Element doesn't work? 13:04:03 I was told that the Windows Defender Inbound restrictions from my laptop might effect the router itself and block all traffic, so to make an exception rule. Then the node's firewall is UFW and I set up an exception there as well. I was just trying to eliminate possible causes and that is one of the things I did. Didn't solve the problem. 13:04:05 I used the suggested canyouseeme.org link to check my Monero port 18081 and it produced a timeout error, suggesting the port is not being forwarded. 13:04:07 I will look at the Seth guide you suggested and the 'restricted bind port' option, thanks. 13:04:09 "prifin: I am a bit confused.
