15:52:04 hi, 15:52:06 listened to seth for privacy recently on watchmen privacy podcast.. he mentioned that the *monero gui doesn't allow you to connect to it from a mobile wallet etc, and use the gui as your node*... 15:52:08 he mentioned another gui that allows you to set up the monero gui to function as your node for this application. 15:52:10 couldn't find the site/more info in the podcast description. 15:52:12 if anyone aware of this software, love to hear. 15:52:14 thanks. 16:06:00 ... but also wondering if it's necessary/worth that effort, for the little i'll be using my mobile wallet... running GUI as a pruned node, which isn't always on (need to sync it up whenever i use it)... and i hear that using the monero remote nodes isn't such a privacy 'no-no' (as is the case for bitcoin, in most instances)... just wondering if easier to just use the remote node m 16:06:02 y mobile wallet connects to, as opposed to making sure my GUI node is running, synced, and available for connections. 16:06:04 any pointers appreciated. 16:06:12 ... but also **wondering if it's necessary/worth that effort, for the little i'll be using my mobile wallet.**.. running GUI as a pruned node, which isn't always on (need to sync it up whenever i use it)... and i hear that using the monero remote nodes isn't such a privacy 'no-no' (as is the case for bitcoin, in most instances)... just wondering if easier to just use the remote no 16:06:14 de my mobile wallet connects to, as opposed to making sure my GUI node is running, synced, and available for connections. 16:06:16 any pointers appreciated. 16:06:25 hi, 16:06:26 listened to seth for privacy recently on watchmen privacy podcast.. he mentioned that the **_monero gui doesn't allow you to connect to it from a mobile wallet etc, and use the gui as your node_**... 16:06:28 he mentioned another gui that allows you to set up the monero gui to function as your node for this application. 16:06:30 couldn't find the site/more info in the podcast description. 16:06:32 if anyone aware of this software, love to hear. 16:06:34 thanks. 18:45:00 Running a local node 24/7 speeds up sync times with your phone wallet, especially if your connection isn't great. Recently public remote nodes (RPC) have been spammed, resulting in extremely slow phone wallet sync. The P2P part of the node is much more resilient, meaning private RPC nodes still operated as normal. 18:45:00 If neither sync times not uptime is critical for you, you can use public remote notes with only minimal privacy impact. 18:46:41 GUI can be configured to run a local node, it ships with monerod by default. However in my experience it is much better to run monerod separately, and then connect the GUI wallet to it. Seth has an excellent tutorial for this. 20:33:49 thanks for the above. good to know about the RPC spamming and the impact that had. is a consideration. 20:33:50 regarding GUI and running a node. this is something i'm doing, but not 24/7... i just sync up the node every few weeks. and if do a tx, will do so after it's synced up. 20:33:52 **my query was related to the fact that AFAIK, from seth's recent pod, the monero GUI can't be a remote node for mobile wallets, without some other software.. ** ... apparently someone in the community has developed an app to be a bridge or something between the GUI node and a mobile wallet for example. 20:33:54 i don't have the resources for running a monero node on a separate server. i just run it on my laptop, syncing up when i can. 20:34:32 thanks for the above. good to know about the RPC spamming and the impact that had. is a consideration. 20:34:32 regarding GUI and running a node. this is something i'm doing, but not 24/7... i just sync up the node every few weeks. and if do a tx, will do so after it's synced up. 20:34:34 **my query was related to the fact that AFAIK, from seth's recent pod, the monero GUI can't be a remote node for mobile wallets, without some other software..** ... apparently someone in the community has developed an app to be a bridge or something between the GUI node and a mobile wallet for example. 20:34:36 i don't have the resources for running a monero node on a separate server. i just run it on my laptop, syncing up when i can. 20:47:16 syncing a node only when you make transactions worsens your privacy. P2P traffic is visible, and this allows timing correlations. In your cased I'd advice against using a node. 20:47:18 GUI can be a remote node, because it starts up the normal node binary. But you need to specify startup flags (somewhere in advance GUI settings) or manually edit the configuration file.
