spackle[m]
Has there been any consideration for getting a Monero presence on the Fediverse? The user base of the Fediverse seems very compatible with Monero and it doesn't look like anyone has tried to connect with it (my searches there return essentially nothing). I'm considering setting up a Pleroma instance for Monero to post news and host discussion. If it hasn't been done I was thinking I'd take a swing at it this weekend. Thoughts?
-
Rucknium[m]
<selsta> "dEBRUYNE: makes no sense" <- Why did they de-list ZEC in the first place?
-
selsta
They delisted some privacy coins without any reasoning.
-
selsta
now they relist ZEC for whatever reason
-
sech1
even when they delisted privacy coins on Jan 3rd (IIRC), they still left some Monero forks there
-
sech1
the main theory is they had a specific kill list from their bank
-
selsta
-
sech1
so does it mean ZEC is officially not a privacy coin?
-
selsta
no, they probably paid them or so
-
sech1
that whole situation blew out of proportion in January. Bittrex was less than 1% of Monero volume, it's literally irrelevant
-
selsta
also ZEC is barely a privacy coin, aren't like 99% transactions transparent
-
selsta
it resulted in a huge price dump for whatever reason

As a sidenote, also just this week have been trying to establish an 'official', more active presence elsewhere in the fediverse on Lemmy(.ml)
-
xmrscott[m]
Monero already existed, so created XMRtrader and PM'd the reddit mods to see if they'd like to mod on Lemmy. So far, no bites

xmrscott[m]: Before I look for IRC bridging information in other places, do you remember in which place you explained the steps to unbridge hardware? Was it #monero-hardware on Freenode?
-
xmrscott[m]
Yep, in June. Can repost it if you don't have scrollback
-
xmrscott[m]
Your Matrix account is needed anyways though and should see it
-
msvb-mob
I have logs of -hardware from since 21 June where I didn't find it. Yes, that would be very nice of you to repost the steps. I'm kind of lost to unbridge, can't remember what I did.
-
msvb-mob
So this is not about a Mattermost bridge, it is Matrix that I need to unbridge right?
-
xmrscott[m]
Oh derp. Mattermost got killed since no one used it and bridge was shaky
-
msvb-mob
It was a very good effort in any case to work on Mattermost. Oh well.
-
xmrscott[m]
But Matrix should still be unbridged to freenode given freenode is a hostile actor to the FOSS community at this point
-
xmrscott[m]
I'll repost the steps to unbridge freenode there momentarily
-
msvb-mob
Thank you.
-
msvb-mob
I found your comments now, they were not on IRC but rather Matrix itself I think?
-
msvb-mob
I made you xmrscott[m] admin on the Matrix channel, so we can both try to carry out the steps. We will have a race to see who can unlink faster.
-
msvb-mob
Without joking, I'm not seeing the 'Share Room' link you mention, which I don't understand.
-
xmrscott[m]
msvb-mob: Can you de-admin that one and Admin the one w/ the icon? The one you admin'd is my matrix . org backup
-
msvb-mob
Yes.
-
msvb-mob
The only one who can deadmin you is yourself, after you become an admin. That's my interpretation of the Matrix rules, and it seems I can't deadmin you.
-
msvb-mob
It seems you did it, Freenode users are dropping like flies
-
xmrscott[m]
Yeah, I'll do it in a moment, currently working through Address error codes
-
msvb-mob
Its fine to remain admin of the channel I think, it's your choice.
-
xmrscott[m]
pigeons: When you have a chance can you flush / purge monero-hardware:monero.social ? I can't add it as an address because it's already claimed by a historical room
-
xmrscott[m]
msvb-mob: Your msvb-web needs to approve the bridge to libera now
-
xmrscott[m]
They should have been PM'd by the bridge bot
-
msvb-mob
Thanks, let me see. I can see these things in Element right?
-
xmrscott[m]
No, -web is presumably on Libera, not Element
-
msvb-mob
Yes, that's true. Let me look on my IRC application then.
-
xmrscott[m]
Actually by deduction it has to be Libera / IRC based because it has ops and is presently on the irc channel which isn't bridged yet
-
msvb-mob
This is quite a headache, because I have two different Matrix accounts using two homeservers (a mistake.)
-
msvb-mob
And multiple chat applications with protocol native accounts logged into bridged channels, oh my.
-
xmrscott[m]
For those in the audience following along, -hardware is now among the 'bridged-to-Libera' list. Still need to straighten out the the addr issue w/ pige, but at least primary functions are in order
-
xmrscott[m]
msvb-mob: Yes, my best practice is have three accounts: Libera for backup and for handshaking bridge, and two matrix (one monero.social as primary, matrix.org as backup in case social gets DDoS'd). Only ever touch my monero.social on Matrix clients which keeps it simple
-
DaveyJones
-
xmrscott[m]
Once my monero.social has ops I usually just /part the Libera one to prevent confusion on who to PM, etc
-
msvb-lab
Off topic, but in case someone can confirm that the monero.social Matrix homeserver only has access to the uesr accounts locally managed. Matrix homeservers like monero.social cannot share account information right?
-
msvb-lab
It seems according to xmrscott[m]'s advice that having two accounts (one on matrix.org and another on monero.social) is not a bad idea at all.
-
xmrscott[m]
Correct. Messages are locally encrypted on Matrix. No other Matrix server can access your PM's, etc
-
xmrscott[m]
Basically the easiest way to think of Matrix accounts is as an email provider. Yahoo can't access ProtonMail user password hashs+salt, messages, contacts
-
msvb-lab
That's a good analogy xmrscott[m].

Inspiral
what is the most efficient way to get usdc to xmr?
-
ComplyLast
Inspiral, transfer usdc to kraken, convert usdc to usd/btc, buy monero
-
Inspiral
is kraken kyc?
-
ComplyLast
yes
-
ComplyLast
even though I think they offer a no kyc option for crypto only withdrawals
-
ComplyLast
so you dont want the most efficient way, you want something kycless
-
ComplyLast
an instant exchange like sideshift.ai is probably the fastest then
-
Inspiral
maximum on sideshift appears to be 2k usdc
-
Inspiral
I have 20k haha
-
Inspiral
I think I will swap it into eth and then send that to tradeogre and swap that way
-
Inspiral
what a fucking ballache
-
ComplyLast
tradeogre only has btc pairs
-
ComplyLast
so if you go the eth route you pay more fees
-
Inspiral
I'm trapped on the eth blockchain with my usdc though
-

-

anarkiocrypto[m]
Try FixedFloat.com or Flyp.me. Both are KYC-free and have low fees. Don't use KYC exchanges, even if they have "under $xxxx no KYC" limits, they can still arbitrarily demand KYC and seize your funds.
-
carrington[m]
Tbf, KYC-free exchanges could still do that if they wanted to if they are custodial for even 1 second
-
anarkiocrypto[m]
FixedFloat has never asked for KYC and I have used it for many months. But it's true that atomic swaps are better and will be the preferable option when they are out of beta.
-
mechanic41turk[m
Atomic swaps are useable.
-
anarkiocrypto[m]
They are usable and working, but difficult for non-technical users and still have some bugs/need some troubleshooting. But hopefully there will be easy-to-use integrations soon.
-
mechanic41turk[m
I don't think it's difficult for non-techies, at all.
