m-relay_<diego:cypherstack.com> No we didn't get that far before things were derailed
-
m-relay_<redsh4de:matrix.org> Alright, and were the dropdown for the nav bar meant to be full page width, or as fit-to-content cards?
-
binaryFateselsta: site deployed and DNS records updated
-
plowsofthank you
-
m-relay<basses:matrix.org> very cool, Diego Salazar the hero image isn't supposed to be animated, right? because I think it will make the web page bloated
-
m-relay<basses:matrix.org> also you are killing it redsh4de 🔥
-
m-relay<basses:matrix.org> matrix.monero.social/_matrix/media/…matrix.org/CGSCGdGNtYXcLDSkFqXXLdeS
-
m-relay<basses:matrix.org> Diego Salazar why u created this icon? lol
-
m-relay<redsh4de:matrix.org> visual consistency with other icons in the set i reckon, i put the og monero logo first but this flows better
-
m-relay<basses:matrix.org> yeah, but better keep the original monero logo
-
m-relay<basses:matrix.org> btw, have u looked into way to exit the hamburger menu on mobile?
-
m-relay<basses:matrix.org> mkdocs doesn't have any but astro starlight does

-
m-relay<redsh4de:matrix.org> yea, currently if you just click outside of the hamburger menu it will close - i set a background layer which acts as a trigger
-
m-relay<redsh4de:matrix.org> but i guess having a X button would be more intuitive
-
m-relay<basses:matrix.org> these designs were created by diego too, although the latter is broken lol
-
m-relay<basses:matrix.org> yeah, I keept checking made websites with good design practices, all include the X button.
-
m-relay<basses:matrix.org> yeah, I kept checking websites made with good design practices, all include the X button.
-
m-relay<diego:cypherstack.com> Hadn't decided.
-
m-relay<diego:cypherstack.com> Not animated, correct.
-
m-relay<diego:cypherstack.com> Correct
-
m-relay<diego:cypherstack.com> Oh yeah I've been meant to fix that for a while.
-
m-relay<diego:cypherstack.com> The thing that needs the most thinking through is the downloads page, I think.
-
m-relay<diego:cypherstack.com> Were you wanting the last milestone of my CCS?
-
m-relay<diego:cypherstack.com> I'd done enough work since long ago to claim the first two milestones, but I haven't done so yet b
-
m-relay<diego:cypherstack.com> I'd done enough work since long ago to claim the first two milestones, but I haven't done so yet.
-
m-relay<redsh4de:matrix.org> A more complete design would def be helpful here yeah, especially for the missing pages, i am down to improvise something if you are too busy for the moment though
-
m-relay<redsh4de:matrix.org> was thinking yesterday about best ways to layout the downloads too as we have a decent amount of wallet software, had ideas about doing something with cards/accordions but nothing too concrete. The official GUI wallet would definitely have to be at the forefront
-
m-relay<redsh4de:matrix.org> Perhaps sub-pages or modals that contain more details about each wallet could be used, as pushing all info in one view would be too much visual clutter
-
m-relay<diego:cypherstack.com> I don't think the current download page is bad, per se. But I also don't think it's great.
-
m-relay<redsh4de:matrix.org> Perhaps the information could be organized in tabs - desktop/mobile/hardware
-
m-relay<basses:matrix.org> it is not good, better have each wallet have its own card monero-project/monero-site #2162#issuecomment-2053775697
-
m-relay<redsh4de:matrix.org> tabs could contain expandable accordion row items that follow a specific format, inside each - preview, small description, relevant links, tags?
-

-
m-relay<redsh4de:matrix.org> just ideas
-
m-relay<redsh4de:matrix.org> I also see projects which have a lot of wallets utilize a filter list
-
m-relay<diego:cypherstack.com> There's two sets of things.
-
m-relay<diego:cypherstack.com> Core stewarded or third party
-
m-relay<diego:cypherstack.com> Desktop or mobile
-
m-relay<diego:cypherstack.com> There can be others such as full node or light wallet, but we risk overcomplicating.
-
m-relay<diego:cypherstack.com> Well, it's not a risk. More than two primary categories and it does become overcomplicated.
-
m-relay<basses:matrix.org> I think voins wallet listing websites, bitcoin looks like an amazon bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet?step=5 lmao, eth too. Only ones that are doing kinda correctly are zcash and solana z.cash/ecosystem/?wallets=#tag-wallets and solana.com/solana-wallets
-
m-relay<diego:cypherstack.com> So it's a given.
-
m-relay<basses:matrix.org> but I still don't like how it looks
-
m-relay<diego:cypherstack.com> Yeah I don't think anyone has particularly got this correct.
-
m-relay<redsh4de:matrix.org> Yeah both of these are close but something about the UX still seems too complex
-
m-relay<basses:matrix.org> innovation time sir
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Core
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> cli
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Gui
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> full - everything else
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> light - everytbing else
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> light wallets shouldnt be grouped with full wallets
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> But we dont need sections for desktop and mobile.
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Cake, stack have desktop and mobile
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Feather desktop only
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> monfluo mobile only
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> A matrix for this (as current) is fine
-
m-relay<redsh4de:matrix.org> I think using Core, CLI, GUI as the main categories would be relatively confusing UX for anyone non-technical, those could be added as tags for each wallet item visually if we go for a platform-based seperation like Desktop/Mobile/Hardware for example
-
m-relay<redsh4de:matrix.org> We could have cards with each wallet like in the Solana example, small description about each, and tags in it - the official Monero wallet is Desktop only, so it would go in the desktop section, and it could have tags like "Light", "Full" as it supports both functionalities. More info & download links could be added in a sub-page for example, trying to think of something that is r<clipped message>
-
m-relay<redsh4de:matrix.org> eally easy to navigate and shows the user only what they want to see so the view is clean

m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> You misreas me
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> main categories: core, everything else
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Under core: cli and gui
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Under everuthig else: sub categories for full and light
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> under full: all of the full wallets in a platform support matrix
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> under light: all of the light wallets in a platform support matrix
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> The official monero wallet is not desktop only
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> It supports all platforms (except ios)
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> GUI and CLI are the "official" wallets of monero-project. CLI isnt just a wallet, it is the whole package that includes monerod etc. GUI also includes monerod, but isnt the full suite of tools
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> CLI also includes the rpc wallet
-
m-relay<redsh4de:matrix.org> I do like having that Core and Community category seperation idea - would make arranging the core wallets that much easier
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> thats how it is today, and mostly because 1. they are monero-project (community) maintained repos (not personal or corporate projects) 2. they are the node
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Its a downloads page, not necessarily a wallets page
-
m-relay<basses:matrix.org> u mean the cli? run on android with termux?
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> And at the forefront of the downloads is the node. Which happens to contain either cli or gui tools to interact with it
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Yes, they ship android releases
-
m-relay<redsh4de:matrix.org> That is true, but most people generally think of wallet software when they go to a cryptocurrency project's downloads page. I believe the Core / Community seperation definitely is good and should be kept, but it would be helpful to have some platform oriented organization within the wallets section at the very least. Although could also do with adding platform icons like it is the<clipped message>

m-relay<redsh4de:matrix.org> re and call it a day, its something to experiment with thi

-
m-relay<basses:matrix.org> try not editing message as it spam irc users in this room
-
plowsofatm our downloads page has a separate desktop and mobile view (i assume implemented incorrectly) so PR's to add / remove things involve editing raw html, using fingers to count open / closing brackets and not forgetting about the separate "mobile" view. this should instead be data in a file (yaml for e.g.) and then all the thinking is offloaded
-
plowsofonto a for loop that generates the different sections
-
m-relay<redsh4de:matrix.org> Astro can easily handle that part on build time
-
plowsofliquid can too but these things get neglected or forgotten about. another issue being not using ccs2 (iirc) standards - instead ther is 1 giant css file that is used as a public toilet
-
plowsofs/ccs2/css2 0_o
-
m-relay<redsh4de:matrix.org> in this version i have one global.css file, which only contains CSS variables for font sizes, spacing, colors which are then used across all other components, each components have their own styles defined as well, but all components use the single source of truth for general things like colors
-
m-relay<redsh4de:matrix.org> easier to later update colors or font sizes or something, dont have to grep every instance where 16px or something is defined for a text, big maintainability upgrade
-
plowsofi suggest moving to css2, as nothing is easier with 1 giant ccs file github.com/monero-project/monero-site/blob/master/css/custom.css
