<nioc> "there are comments in -space?" <- If you make like the Illuminati and use Matrix 😄
-
xmrscott[m]
I should probably badge the Matrix people again about the 100+ bridge exception progress tho

<crypto_grampy[m]> "I don't like Pomp at all, but..." <- He openly advocated for people to ignore any laws about custodial lightning nodes.

t-900-a: Is it illegal to run a ln node?
-
t-900-a
I haven't seen the video that was recently uploaded, but that stood out to me the last time I listened to his show.
-
crypto_grampy[m]
Is this.... Money transmitting?
-
t-900-a
It's illegal to be an unregistered money transmitter.
-
crypto_grampy[m]
How is running a ln node different from running a btc or xmr node from the money transmitting standpoint
-
t-900-a
You can runaway with your users funds.
-
crypto_grampy[m]
<t-900-a> "You can runaway with your..." <- nice. *downloads LN node software*

Looks like a secure solution to base layer.

don't worry, 99% of bitcoiners will just be using a bitcoin debit card on google pay within a few years... why on earth would you want to run your own node:

<Mumuks> "But muh raspberry pi..." <- \>Running a node means I am in charge
-
Mumuks
<mechanic41turk[m> "\>Running a node means I am in..." <- Yeah, in charge until the miners run a different version and your chain gets orphaned. So in charge...
-
Mumuks
The people with power in crypto are miners and users/holders (people who influence the price)
-
Mumuks
That's who determines the rules of a coin. Running a full node allows you to check the rules are being follow, but gives you no power.
-
Mumuks
The full node narrative was always a scam
-
chad[m]
Full nodes relay blocks. If miners for off, then nodes (full or otherwise) will stop relaying their blocks. It only makes sense for miners to do that, if they can also convince nodes to follow suit. Hence.... Nodes have power. One cannot succeed without the other.

-
chad[m]
Its a game of tug of war. Nodes have some incentives and miners have others. The two pull against each other, keeping the system in balance. Without that balance, the chain would become unusable or insecure

<Mumuks> "That's who determines the..." <- the moment running full nodes become really expensive that most people depend on external services (like fore example with ethereum) these external services become centers of power. People have to trust those.

<chad[m]> "Full nodes relay blocks. If..." <- That's not true. If users and holders agree with the changes in the miners chain and the price remains high for that chain, miners could care less whether some nodes are in their chain or not.
-
Mumuks
Full nodes have no power. The only people who have power are miners and price influencers (users, holders...)
-
Mumuks
The full node narrative was always absurd.

Agree to disagree :)

<Mumuks> "The people with power in..." <- shhh... you are popping my perfect delusion bubble
-
xmrscott[m]
There are perks to running your own node, they just center around privacy which can be a form of power in terms of free will
-
mechanic41turk[m
In the greater picture as to having a say in where the network protocol is going, "run your own node muh-rines !!" is overhyped.
-
mechanic41turk[m
It is a delusion of power.
-
tcsnyyzo[m]
Yeah. Not really a projection of power outward, but a sort of power via assurance of security.
-
Mumuks
Running a full node is useful. Nobody is saying it is not. I am still setting up shit in my home server, but a Monero full node is in the to do list. So running a full node is useful.
-
Mumuks
But I hold no illusions that it gives me any power when it comes to influencing the rules of Monero. That is the point.
