<savode4679:matrix.org> hi i have p2pool mining question.
-
m-relay
<savode4679:matrix.org> "It is highly recommended to create a new mainnet wallet for P2Pool mining because wallet addresses are public on P2Pool."
github.com/SChernykh/p2pool
-
m-relay
<savode4679:matrix.org> does this mean i should create a new wallet or can i use a sub adress in the same wallet i mine?
-
m-relay
<rbrunner7:monero.social> It's not possible to mine to a subaddress.
-
m-relay
<rbrunner7:monero.social> Not even a limitation of P2Pool, the very protocol does not support it.
-
m-relay
<savode4679:matrix.org> yes i know i mean
-
m-relay
<savode4679:matrix.org> primary address - mining
-
m-relay
<savode4679:matrix.org> sub address - use for transactions
-
m-relay
<savode4679:matrix.org> "create a new mainnet wallet" does it mean full new wallet (primary address) or just a sub address
-
m-relay
<rbrunner7:monero.social> Hard to say. If you have the subaddresses in the same account, your wallet will produce transactions with outputs / enotes from the mining with your other enotes which is not ideal at all privacy-wise.
-
m-relay
<rbrunner7:monero.social> "New wallet" means a new wallet, with its own different file, and its own seed
-
m-relay
<savode4679:matrix.org> okay thank you that's the answer i was looking for!
-
m-relay
<plowsof:matrix.org> when you spend from that wallet. you will most likely be combining outputs you have mined. if you are spending/sending to a centralised service or another with kyc then those mined coined will be linked to your identity now or possibly later
-
m-relay
<savode4679:matrix.org> is that only with mining? for other transactions it still makes sense to use sub address?
-
m-relay
<rbrunner7:monero.social> Yes, enotes resulting from mining are rather special because they are "in the clear"
-
m-relay
<rbrunner7:monero.social> The only exception
-
m-relay
<savode4679:matrix.org> thx
-
m-relay
<plowsof:matrix.org> did you come about your p2pool journey organically or did you see a recent reddit thread savode4679?
-
m-relay
<savode4679:matrix.org> no not from reddit
-
m-relay
<plowsof:matrix.org> ah ok, i was about to share this, when i seen your message:

m-relay
<plowsof:matrix.org> a plug for hintos gupax 🔥
-
m-relay
<savode4679:matrix.org> thats cool! another question. will p2pool payouts increase if more people use it?
-
m-relay
<rbrunner7:monero.social> You mean whether mining for you running P2Pool will become more profitable? Don't think so.
-
m-relay
<rbrunner7:monero.social> But Monero as a whole will profit. Concentration of mining to a small number of dominant pools is not ideal and a bit worrying.
-
m-relay
<savode4679:matrix.org> yeah that is why i do p2pool

<vtnerd:monero.social> I contacted them after the IRS crypto reporting rule change went into effect, and decided to not back out after it was announced the DoJ wouldn't be enforcing it. Hopefully it gets funded still, otherwise I'm not certain what I'll do
