<lejeczek:matrix.org> Off a network filesystem ? Hi guys. I have GlusterFS mounted volume which I want monero deamon to use but monero errors out: WARNING blockchain.db.lmdb src/blockchain_db/lmdb/db_lmdb.cpp:75 Failed to renew a read transaction for the db: MDB_PANIC: Update of meta page failed or environment had fatal error - I wonder if anybody successfully runs monero that/similar way and/or have <clipped message>

<prancing389:matrix.org> The sooner we're out of Centralized Exchanges, the better. This will remove most if not all the cabal player seeking to manipulate price and speculators in it for the wrong reasons. The mission is to be the best digital cash. You don't invest in cash hoping it will go up, you earn cash, hoping it won't lose it's value over time.
-
m-relay
<0xfffc:matrix.org> Have you been able to run monero on GlusterFS? Or this was first time? And in first run you got this error.

<prancing389:matrix.org> Haveno is very close to launch, as is XMRBazaar

<lejeczek:matrix.org> Hi. No this is my first try - It starts and seems fine for a while but later starts errors out as I c&p above. If I revert back to "regular" local filesystem then all is good.

<prancing389:matrix.org> Let's not forget BasicSwap, a true Decentralized exchange. It's close to release too.
-
m-relay
<prancing389:matrix.org> I've already requested better installation packaging for Linux, we'll see where that goes.
-
m-relay
<0xfffc:matrix.org> That’s validates my theory: the underlying file system does not support one(or more) operation required by lmdb. But that is just theory, we have to debug and make sure we verify what’s actually going on.
-
m-relay
<0xfffc:matrix.org> Distributed file systems (Ceph, GlusterFS, etc) can be quite tricky.
-
m-relay
<0xfffc:matrix.org> If you are interested/familiar in these kind of experiments. I can help you in private chat to debug it. And find out which API/operation is failing. Feel free to pm me directly.
-
m-relay
<lejeczek:matrix.org> Thanks, I'll try to make more time to come back to this issue.
-
m-relay
<rbrunner7:monero.social> I believe to remember that it's memory mapped file operations that LMDB depends on that are not available for such remote filesystems, and hence they don't work, quite in principle.

<siren:kernal.eu> Alex | LocalMonero | AgoraDesk: Hi, I was wondering if the company behind localmonero had to apply for a virtual asset provider license. I'm talking to a group of farmers who are thinking of building a marketplace application, which would need to be custodial in order to prevent scams etc.
-
m-relay
<siren:kernal.eu> They are based in EU, and would like to integrate monero payments. If anyone else knows, let me know.
-

<sgp:magicgrants.org> ElementX stopped working for me with this upgrade (on my monero.social account). Does anyone else use ElementX and has the same issue?
-

<siren:kernal.eu> They are based in EU, and would like to integrate monero payments. They don't know if they must get a VASP license. If anyone else knows, let me know.

MajesticBank
Right now it's easiest to get MSB license from Canadian FINTRAC, that license is accepted worldwide, they will be able to open accounts in banks and do w/e
-
MajesticBank
Other solution is Czech Republic, which is crypto friendly and grey area
-
MajesticBank
not sure what is best solution for farmers tho

<siren:kernal.eu> Another question: does anyone have experience with listing an app which supports in-app monero payments for goods on Apple App Store?
-
MajesticBank
There are old and new apple terms regarding that. Under old no in-app payments are allowed only using their payment system, under new they are allowed but developer will have to pay apple per installs of the app
-
MajesticBank
rules are one thing so

Sgp seems like mine isnt working either

<sgp:magicgrants.org> If it's custodial, they'll probably need a license for the jurisdictions that they'll operate in
-
m-relay
<sgp:magicgrants.org> This is also quite difficult. Their rules prevent or heavily discourage this
-
m-relay
<siren:kernal.eu> It would be great if they could avoid needing this license. Do you think it would be sufficient to KYC the farmer alone to prevent scams?
-
m-relay
<sgp:magicgrants.org> I can't answer this question unfortunately. Would it still be custodial in that case?
-
m-relay
<sgp:magicgrants.org> Localmonero uses multisig; they hold 1/3 keys afaik
-
m-relay
<siren:kernal.eu> Nope, they would like to avoid custodial setups.
-
m-relay
<sgp:magicgrants.org> Avoiding custody is a step in the right direction towards not needing a license, but unfortunately you'll probably have to do some work to learn what side of the line you're on for the operating jurisdictions
-
m-relay
<siren:kernal.eu> I was thinking if the farmer's address was known to the marketplace operator then the client who paid for services can be asked to provide their txid and tx private key. Then the payment can be decrypted to see that this person paid the farmer.
-
midipoet
If they are selling foodstuffs for cryptocurrency (assumed) why do they need a VASP licence?
-
m-relay
<siren:kernal.eu> But then the service would need to refund the client, assuming the farmer was a scammer and didn't deliver
-
m-relay
<rucknium:monero.social> Wouldn't standard contracts cover this? Is contract enforcement hard where this is? Is it common to not deliver what is promised and paid for?
-
m-relay
<siren:kernal.eu> Not sure if this is common.
-
m-relay
<siren:kernal.eu> More common with fiat trades than Monero certainly
-
midipoet
If they are EU, they would have to adhere to AML laws if handling large sums (i think currently it's 10k, but will be reduced) of money. Aside from that, they would just need to adhere to tax reporting regs. I don't think MiCA would apply, unless as sgp points out there is some custody of crypto-assets (but even then that is if the business is custody provision, and this is not the case as described)
-
m-relay
<siren:kernal.eu> I'll suggest to them that they avoid a custodial setup
-
m-relay
<gfdshygti53:monero.social> Canadians MSB license for crypto, afaik, require you to get doxe informations (name and full home address) for each address people send there crypto too
-
m-relay
<siren:kernal.eu> By the way, has anyone thought of in-app credits? There are some CDNs, games and VPS providers that have this. Where you pay to top up a virtual balance and then spend. Would this count as a custodial setup too?
-
m-relay
<siren:kernal.eu> I'll suggest to avoid a custodial setup

<siren:kernal.eu> Pay monero, get robux. Problem?

<sgp:magicgrants.org> Siren: one thing to focus on is the difference between a platform collecting crypto to sell its own goods (or credits), versus a platform that facilities money transmission for different buyers and sellers. Do you see the difference there between those two?
-
m-relay
<siren:kernal.eu> Aaaaaa yeah okay. This is not going to help.
-
m-relay
<sgp:magicgrants.org> If it can be like the former, then a license shouldn't be needed
-
m-relay
<sgp:magicgrants.org> If you avoid custody (eg using multisig properly) and do a light verification of users to ensure you know they aren't in a high risk jurisdiction, and it's for delivery of real goods worth less than $1k, then you *probably* wouldnt need a license in most jurisdictions (obligatory ianal, facts and circumstances, etc)
-
m-relay
<siren:kernal.eu> Honestly I don't think scams would be so common. And a rating/recommendation system would be sufficient mitigation for scammers.
-
m-relay
<siren:kernal.eu> It's rare to receive refunds from fiat based marketplaces even
-
midipoet
sgp: the 1k limit would only be if anonymous transactions, no? One assumes they would have delivery name and address for food. They might need contact number as well, but don't think they need to verify anything beyond that.
-
m-relay
<sgp:magicgrants.org> I'm just using a rough low value threshold, not a specific number

<felizduq:matrix.org> Decentralized escrow is a tough one; bisq's bonded roles comes to mind, or a MAD 2-of-2 approach like particl marketplace maybe. Entirely depends on the needs of your farmer friends
