Given #monero-pools is going to disappear from Libera Chat, should it get removed from
getmonero.org/community/hangouts and be Matrix-only?
-
DataHoarder
until whatever solution is found

m-relay
<parasew:matrix.org> Tomorrow (Nov 16) is the deadline for the CfP of the "community stages" at 38c3 (Chaos Communication Congress in Hamburg). Please submit your talks if you have not already!

DataHoarder we can make an issue about it, most likely replaced with monero-mining room on matrix (a libera room exists for it but im not sure about its registration status)
-
ofrnxmr
Why is -pools being removed?
-
DataHoarder
continuous breach over the years of Libera's Network Policy
libera.chat/policies/#unwanted-content-and-behaviour
-
DataHoarder
finally hit the threshold so it's being removed by Libera staff
-
ofrnxmr
Cornfeed strikes again?
-
DataHoarder
not related
-
DataHoarder
it's Libera staff
-
DataHoarder
given that channel has been the source of many infractions over the years, no surprise
-
badjabber
cornfeed strikes again
-
ofrnxmr
Anyway, thats what happens when mods moderate offtopic but pretent pools dont exist
-
badjabber
no actually it supposedly is the libera admins this time. But cornfeed in over in -pools pretending to be morally superior
-
ofrnxmr
he is morally superior tho /s
-
ofrnxmr
Pools has been a cesspool for yrs, but everyone just made it an exception (while over-policing offtopic)
-
badjabber
please we prefer the term pool of cess
-
elucidator
Dude they are shutting the channel down with a short notice. I think that's an exceptional exception.
-
ofrnxmr
I'm not surprised that -pools is getting axe, but its part of why mods needs to stop power tripping and being biased
-
cornfeedhobo
ofrnxmr: it probably would have been fine until you went to support channels and threw a fit about free speech
-
cornfeedhobo
ofrnxmr: it is very possible that you are the reason this is happening
-
ofrnxmr
maybe if we didnt have mods killing offtopic bridge and users getting k-lined, and answer when being questiond, then there would have been to need to ask about your ops
-
ofrnxmr
i never mentioned -pools, i mentioned that we had some unknown mod going overboard in offtopic
-
ofrnxmr
And arent you the one who reported users to them? Lol
-
elucidator
ofrnxmr: why did you get us shut down. Shame on you :/
-
ofrnxmr
I asked a question. Cornfeed reported ppl
-
cornfeedhobo
ofrnxmr: no, you are grasping at straws. I never reached out to staff about -pools. it's not my channel
-
cornfeedhobo
ofrnxmr: you have continually made up bs
-
ofrnxmr
I never reached out about pools, not did i report anyome
-
badjabber
it's not ofrnxmr it's probably cornfeedhobo
-
badjabber
this is dumb
-
cornfeedhobo
ofrnxmr: look, make up what ever you want. I've never messed with any other channels. you went to staff to complain, and then staff reached out to me about -pools. I tried to save -pools, but then you guys went super nova and bugged staff even more.
-
DataHoarder
but sounds good plowsof
-
badjabber
staff reached out to you about pools and then pools shutdown
-
badjabber
ok
-
cornfeedhobo
yes. i've been on this network a very long time. they have seen me around. and that is the last i'm going to say on the matter.
-
badjabber

<ofrnxmr:monero.social> ""<cornfeedhobo> you did break libera rules and i did have a conversation with libera already""
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> i dont need to make up anything
-
cornfeedhobo
i literally just said i spoke with staff. like you're posting a revelation.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> you claimed you didnt report anyone, but you were having convos with libera staff about what??
-
DataHoarder
also, related to previous conversations during last summer plowsof, the New(TM) bridge is going to go through some testing first on P2Pool channels once pigeons has the appservice enabled. Should allow for opt-in double puppeting on IRC (and everything will be a puppet on Matrix side), and map more events nicely
-
DataHoarder
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> You also JUST said you spoke with staff _after_ i complained about your trash moderation. But your quoted statement predates me asking them about the kline
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> weasle fuck, don't try to spin your stitching onto me
-
cornfeedhobo
ofrnxmr: you can spend all night combing your inconsistencies. i'm done responding to you in this channel. you are offtopic.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Snitching*, go kline yourself
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Do something about it
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Fact: you posted "<cornfeedhobo> you did break libera rules and i did have a conversation with libera already" days before i asked libera who was controlling chanserv and if juliu was klined
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Everyone knows you're a weasel. I don't need to convince anyone. My consistencies line up just fine.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> maybe we should bridge to oftc or self-host irc and defed from cornfeed managed channels
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> oftc has dm's across the bridge as well
-
badjabber
-pools I think as of this moment is getting set up on rizon
-
badjabber
not necessarily permanent
-
DataHoarder
note, OFTC channels are registered from 2020 by a no longer active person (due to Freenode transition)
-
DataHoarder
so those are unmanageable
-
DataHoarder
Rizon one was just registered by elucidator and once the dust settles it can be transferred or managed properly
-
elucidator
If the decision comes out as oftc we can request it from oftc ops as well
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Old oftc channels?
-
elucidator
I won't comment about this here anymore. Both offtopic and controversial
-
DataHoarder
yeah, though OFTC network rules if you want to keep -pools as its current purpose/topics could find itself in conflict with OFTC policy on "No hate speech"
-
badjabber
hate speech is however the ones in charge want to interpret it
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> -pools needs moderation, that goes without saying
-
badjabber
it doesn't
-
badjabber
it was chill
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Without moderation it shouldnt have been on getmonero as a mining channel
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Its not exactly a good place for normal ppl to show up looking for help mining. But getmonero advertises it as such
-
badjabber
there are pool operators there
-
elucidator
And even the most incompetent people got help there by pushing it message by message. Unless they smell like a malicious miner.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Yeah, but and you _can_ find help there, but its not a nice place if all youre looking for is mining
-
elucidator
I meant help for mining
-
elucidator
I agree -pools is not mining specific
-
badjabber
I don't think moderation would have made more people turn up with mining-specific questions
-
elucidator
Filled with nerds we talk about networking, Linux, kernel modding, android modding, AI stuff, web stuff and much more.
-
badjabber
sech1 is there, M5M500 there, they can answer mining-related questions but most randoms coming in ask about gpu mining or something
-
badjabber
the random channel noise doesn't stop the gpu hopefulls
-
badjabber
probably doesn't stop people who know more about what they are doing
-
m-relay
<gingeropolous:monero.social> -pools is where i first started.. with that kiwi web client. and it was fluffypony that responded to my cries of ermagerd why can't i get this working. but yeah, if a pools website links to a different room that ends up more user support focused, that'd be good

kayabanerve: Your slide mentions that a release candidate will most likely be released at the end of the year for Serai (pending audits etc.)

<kayabanerve:matrix.org> dEBRUYNE: Please ask Diego Salazar: for when the full quote for auditing the entirety of Serai (60-80k LoC) will be ready and when they've scheduled it in. They have not been prior asked to perform this task, and aren't actually being asked now, but I am willing to avoid answering your question by pushing it onto Diego, the unsuspecting bystander.

<kayabanerve:matrix.org> Diego Salazar: The monero-serai quote is distinct, I'm joking about a nonexistent request for a quote for the entirety of Serai :p
-
m-relay
<kayabanerve:matrix.org> But dEBRUYNE: There's a slew of audits and reviews. monero-serai, our DKG, the processor, our ETH SCs. The runtime itself...
-
m-relay
<kayabanerve:matrix.org> So it really depends on when auditors schedule us and how long auditing such a massive effort takes. It also depends on how long we have to wait due to organizing funding.
-
m-relay
<kayabanerve:matrix.org> I'll also note that we are using Cypher Stack for some portions, which raises how Cypher Stack is currently over utilized and our audit timeline is in conflict with Monero's accordingly. We are also dependent on some Monero audits.
-
geonic
Will you be asking for quotes from other companies as well? Seeing that sarang now works for Alpen Labs, I’d be interested in knowing who at Cypher Stack would be tasked with the audit.
-
m-relay
<kayabanerve:matrix.org> geonic: For what?
-
m-relay
<kayabanerve:matrix.org> I'm not planning to ask CS for a quote on the ETH SCs at all so inherently yes, I plan to seek quotes from other companies.
-
m-relay
<kayabanerve:matrix.org> Cypher Stack currently employs Brandon Goodell.

hi monero community! I would be interested in onboarding my local businesses to monero. Is there any pamphlets or informational material that could be used to familiarize myself and others with the typical arguments and benefits?
