<monerobull:matrix.org> Why even bother anymore > <plowsof> only related PR atm is the one for hacker one which should be merged soon
monero-project/meta #1211

<aethrvmn:theke.ml> @monerobull:matrix.org: And?
-
br-m
<aethrvmn:theke.ml> Idk why people are freaking out over a guy using an LLM
-
br-m
<rbrunner7> It's not just any random guy. And we are not freaking out, at least as far as I can see, just slowly losing all hope. But maybe the AI bubble will pop fast enough to save us all here from suicide by despair.

<syntheticbird> @rbrunner7: this
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> (tho I'm not better, I've been vibe coding a python plot visualization or cuprate syncing)
-
br-m
<hbs:matrix.org> @rbrunner7: I think if we wait a little longer POTUS will prohibit the EU from accessing US tech so we'll be good on our side of the pond ;-)
-
br-m
<321bob321> Not if cyber force has anything to do with it
-
br-m
<rbrunner7> I would say that visualizations are ok-ish for vibe coding. It's not mission-critical, it's often more or less throw-away, often anything amiss is visible in plain sight, if some graph just does not make sense. Excel charting on steroids, if you like - doing it with Excel is also often hit-and-miss there, for decades already, and not many deaths resulted as far as became known.

<syntheticbird> Linux has really enshittified since at least a few years. At some point in version v6.12 (which was LTS) a maintainer pushed a vibe coded fix that ended up allowing any unprivileged process to crash the kernel through systemd
-
br-m
<aethrvmn:theke.ml> Why does systemd have the capacity to crash the kernel? Which subsystem did that?
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> hold on
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> found it

-
br-m
<syntheticbird> my bad you actually need CAP_SYS_RESOURCE
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> i advice reading the comment

br-m
<syntheticbird> he highlight many morecases of AI slop in the kernel pushing insecurity

Binaries for latest version v0.18.4.5 are now available at getmonero.org
-
br-m
<monero_e:matrix.org> Finally ath, i can leave my normijob for working full time for monero.
-
br-m
<monero_e:matrix.org> What program language should I start learning?
-
br-m
<monero_e:matrix.org> Serious about it
-
nioc
currently C++ but there is also a rust implementation being worked on called cuprate
-
br-m
<monero_e:matrix.org> What would you say is more important to focus on?
-
br-m
<monero_e:matrix.org> Also will a year of intense learning will bring me to a level that i will actually be able to contribute?
-
nioc
usual recommendation is use monero and see where you think improvements. thinks you want to work on, can/should be made
-
nioc
also look at open issues and similar and see what you think you can help with
-
nioc
the code is somewhat complex and the old parts were not commented
-
nioc
but people are helpful

br-m
<monero_e:matrix.org> Sync time is the worse.
-
br-m
<monero_e:matrix.org> Then the 10 confirmation wait.
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> Cuprate significantly improved sync time over monerod and @boog900:monero.social's ongoing work is diminishing it even further by yet another significant amount, notably on HDD.
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> You can find a lot of documentation in Cuprate's repository on many aspect of monero technicals.
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> So I would say quote and quote "sync time being bad will not be an issue for long".
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> As for 10 confirmation, I would invite you to go over the MRL github issues, where extensive discussions have took place about this topic
-
br-m
<hbs:matrix.org> The 10 confirmation is no big deal if you use Monero and have multiple outputs at all time in your wallet
-
br-m
<monero_e:matrix.org> @hbs:matrix.org: it is an issue for the non technical user
-
br-m
<hbs:matrix.org> @monero_e:matrix.org: Not if such user uses Monero regularly
-
br-m
<monero_e:matrix.org> C++ will stay relevant in the far future of monero?
-
br-m
<ufo808:matrix.org> @monero_e:matrix.org: 100%
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> @hbs:matrix.org: yep. Its only really a problem for people who spend all of their xmr at once and only have 1 input
-
br-m
<monero_e:matrix.org> will a year of intense learning c++ will bring me to a level that i will actually be able to contribute?
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> Certainly
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> but as a contributor of Cuprate, I would argue that Cuprate have technical advantages over monerod, is more modern and shows better performance
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> so you should think about learning Rust too 😉
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> s/modern/recent
-
br-m
<ufo808:matrix.org> latest and greatest
-
nioc
<hbs:matrix.org> The 10 confirmation is no big deal if you use Monero and have multiple outputs at all time in your wallet <> or have more than 1 wallet
-
nioc
beware syntheticbird from the church of rust :D
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> nioc what if tou have less than 1 wallet?
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> may the faith in our god ferris be with you enjoyer. We're all part of the great borrow checker, and only the compiler knows our exact lifetime, whether we like it or not.
-
nioc
ofrn then there is no hope for you
-
br-m
<monero_e:matrix.org> Around since 2020
-
br-m
<monero_e:matrix.org> Only way i contribute is making a monero group in my country, posting memes and few hundreds of stickers.
-

<monero_e:matrix.org> Existing for the real thing.
