n1ocselsta full-time monero development (3 months) (22) has moved to funding! ccs.getmonero.org/proposals/selsta-22p.html

plowsofccs.getmonero.org/funding-required syntheticbird and redshades amounts have also updated

br-m<thomasbuilds:matrix.org> tevador: / sech1 asked Fable to audit RandomX, tldr no issues but:
-
br-m<thomasbuilds:matrix.org> 1. RISC-V vector JIT. The IMUL_RCP literal loads encode the byte offset from the pool start in the 12-bit immediate of ld, so the 257th literal is read from the wrong address. Programs with 256 literals are correct and programs with 257 are wrong, on both VLEN 128 and VLEN 256; the scalar JIT, x86 and ARM64 are correct. This [... too long, see mrelay.p2pool.observer/e/z8Wg3qgLU2tzY1dl ]
-
br-m<thomasbuilds:matrix.org> 2. RISC-V hardware AES. randomx_get_flags() never sets HARD_AES because HAVE_AES is 0 for __riscv, so callers that rely on it never use Zvkned, even though #316 describes the extension as "detected and used in runtime". If the flag is set by hand, the first v2 hash without JIT throws std::runtime_error out of randomx_calculate [... too long, see mrelay.p2pool.observer/e/z8Wg3qgLU2tzY1dl ]
-
br-m<thomasbuilds:matrix.org> 3. virtual_memory.c ignores the results of mprotect and VirtualProtect. Under MemoryDenyWriteExecute, or any other policy that forbids executable anonymous memory, randomx_create_vm(JIT) returns a VM and the first hash segfaults, in SECURE mode as well, although the API documents NULL for unsupported flags. On a related note, [... too long, see mrelay.p2pool.observer/e/z8Wg3qgLU2tzY1dl ]

br-m<syntheticbird> plowsof to answer you and in this channel, the outcome of cuprate discussion regarding stagex is that we are going to continue forward with stagex in my CCS. This will be an introductory work towards a forked subset of stagex in the long-term.
-
br-m<jpk68:matrix.org> Is this supposed to be, like, a hard fork/'rebrand' of StageX, or something that just applies patches to their releases?
-
br-m<syntheticbird> I assume hard fork
-
br-m<syntheticbird> I want hard fork
-
plowsofthanks for pushing it forward so quickly
-
br-m<syntheticbird> We need hard fork
-
br-m<syntheticbird> thanks for plowsoffing about it quickly too
-
br-m<jpk68:matrix.org> Plowing it forward :D
