My final opinion on c2pool: it can't be made fair and pool hopping proof, not with it's payout model. See my comment here:

So as far as I'm not opposed to c2pool's existence per se - it's okay to try developing something new, I oppose spending CCS money on it.
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> sounds like a solution in search of a problem. its also inaccurate to say that the p2pool requires running a node. it requires running the p2pool sidechain, not a monero node
-
sech1
Well, it requires Monero node to be running _somewhere_
-
sech1
local host is always preferred and recommended
-
br-m
<monerobull:matrix.org> You need a monero node running somewhere for all mining

<beeratolius:quassel.io> Hi all!
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> I'm on CachyOS, and it seems that for the Monero GUI to be able to sync my node with the blockchain (proned), it would take like 3 months
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> Why is this like that?
-
br-m
<monerobull:matrix.org> Slow internet or you're using a HDD?
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> I am using a HDD, but dude it's TOPS 150-200 GB
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> It's not 200 TB
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> use cuprate
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> 👍️
-
br-m
<sgp_> Skylight Wallet has a new design, and it can now connect to Monero remote nodes (not just LWS):
magicgrants.org/2026/10/04/Skylight-Wallet-V2
-
br-m
-
br-m
<sgp_> lol, of course cake is still awesome and I still use it :)
-
br-m
<sgp_> eg skylight doesn’t support coin control because I can’t be bothered with fcmp around the corner
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> @syntheticbird: the what?
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> @sgp_: so can Monero official wallet, but I really don't want to use a remote wallet ;(
-
br-m
<sgp_> Rate the cup
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> I used Monero before
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> It wasn't this slow and fucked up to sync it, what is happening?
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> @beeratolius:quassel.io: you probably used an ssd, or last time u synced was in 2018
-
br-m
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> I get this, and after the above bar finishes, the bottom bar resets
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> Then the bottom bar barely moves
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> I had it like 2 weeks online, syncing, and it barely budged
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> oh, well the daemon is synced
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> I made over 2 TB in torrenting traffic on that HDD, no matter what speed
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> And Monero is for some reason retarded - doesn't want to sync
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> Please help me
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> why did you blank out the number of blocks remaining
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> are you using simple mode?
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> 1. if using simple mode, you could be connected to a very slow remote node
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> 2. if not using simple mode, you simply set a restore height far into the past, and that takes a few hours to sync on an hdd
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> @ofrnxmr:xmr.mx: idk to be anonymous more?
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> its not helping your case
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> I think I'm using a simple mode(it's the thing you set up when creating an wallet, right?), what do you recommend?
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> nobody knows your restore height, the only thing that numver shows is how many more blocks your wallet has left to sync
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> i recommend advanced mode, and either running a node or connecting to a good a(trusted) remote one
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> (simple mode is being removed anyway)
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org> Is it?
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> @ofrnxmr:xmr.mx: my restore hight is almost 4M
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> well, not simple mode alrogether, but the bootstrap functionality
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> @beeratolius:quassel.io: how? there isnt 4m blocks in the chain
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> Wait what? lmao
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> ok. lets rewind. what are you doin? restoring an old wallet, or creating a new one
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> I said almost 4M
-
br-m
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> nvm it's in advanced mode, sorry
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> I created a new one, but it never got synced completely
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> if this is a new wallet, go to settings -> info -> restore height
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> and set it to 1-2 blocks before the current daemon height
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> like 3776870
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> the lol what?
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> It says restore height is 3711293
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> But I thought I selected it to be pruned ???
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> ALright
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> @beeratolius:quassel.io: if you just created this wallet, then it doesnt need to restore from months ago
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> It says I'm connected to 10 peers, probably for the blockchain downloading
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> restore height is the height that the wallet starts syncing from. has nothing to do with the node
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> the node stores every block, with 7/8th of them pruned
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> @ofrnxmr:xmr.mx: I created the wallet like 2-3 months ago
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> if you havent used it, you dont need to sync those blocks
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> But I didn't have Monero openned for a month or so
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> WHY DOESNT THIS JUST FUCKING WORK
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> what the fuck
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> It's soo pissing me off
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> Nothing in life can just be like 🫰
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> 7/8??????????????????????
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> wtf
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> so I would be downloading only 1/8th?
-
br-m
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> no
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> downloads 8/8 then pruned 7/8
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> since this is getting extended, lets move to #monero-support:monero.social
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> community is the wrong room for support
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> @ofrnxmr:xmr.mx: it what?
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> oh okay, why isn't it added to Rooms in this space, then? I was looking for that in the 1st place :d
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> it is in the space
-
br-m
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> @morsl1650:matrix.org here is looking for someone who knows a lot about Monero
-
br-m
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> Bruh my wallet sync remaining blocks go from a lower number to a higher number instead of vice-versa
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> what the fuck is happening
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> It says remaining, but the number goes up
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> I guess Monero just isn't cut out for me
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Your computer from the 90s?
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> On dial-up internet?
-
br-m
<plowsof:matrix.org> monero is travelling at the speed of light toward the distant stars so what you thought was the destination is changing before your eyes
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> @ofrnxmr:xmr.mx: low-end gaming laptop
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> @ofrnxmr:xmr.mx: well
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> SHHH you aren't allowed to know that neocat_sob
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> @plowsof:matrix.org: I love this response!
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> I am having internet issues, could packets be arriving in a wrong order, but wouldn't a client account for that??
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> @beeratolius:quassel.io: 1. I am sorry for you.
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> 2. No TCP prevents that.
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> 3. It's TCP role not your client to account for that
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> Then why is it acting up like that
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> 1st the Monero wallet was like that
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> Now the Feather wallet
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> actually, TCP account for loss, but packets in wrong order is only possible if you degraf ip packets over multiple route which most likely is not your case. So it's most likely not even happening
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> defrag*
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> @beeratolius:quassel.io: Scientific method tells you that if Monero wallet and Feather wallet acts like that then the problem isn't the wallet in itself
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> And the answer is yours to find
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> I didn't tell Feather where to store the blockchain, it starting doing so on it's own
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> So I'm assuming it's not even on my old-ish HDD which Monero was using
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> Feather doesnt store a blockchain
-
br-m
<plowsof:matrix.org> this is what AGI looks like
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> @ofrnxmr: What?
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> Then what the fuck is it syncing? lmao
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> I should have just created a fresh new wallet -_-
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> @plowsof:matrix.org: The agenda is being fulfilled
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> lets do just that
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> :( please no joke at me
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> The wallet. > <@beeratolius:quassel.io> Then what the fuck is it syncing? lmao
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> Which, with the restore height you were supposed to change to, shpuld finish in under 1min
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> @beeratolius:quassel.io: you are onto a surprise when you'll close your wallet until tomorrow
-
br-m
<plowsof:matrix.org> you new wallet, which has 0 transactions - that you are aware of and have told us about - is busy checking every atom in the universe if there is a transaction inside it that belongs to it
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> @plowsof:matrix.org: why some much hyphens ?
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> if you get some tips into becoming a cyborg im onto it
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> im already synthetic after all
-
br-m
<plowsof:matrix.org> load bearing , please fill in the gaps
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> @syntheticbird: Guideline to avoid emdash
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> @ofrnxmr: OF COURSE I FUCKING TRIED THAT
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> WHY DO YOU THINK I DID NOT
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> I TOLD YOU I TRIED IT
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> Where did i say you didnt try that
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> @ofrnxmr: PLOWSOF.md
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> and I created a fresh new account 5 minutes ago, because nothing else worked
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> I said it "should" finish in under 1min
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> If it isnt, then something didnt work and the wallet is not syncing from the updated height
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> @ofrnxmr: Sorry I read it wrong
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> @ofrnxmr: I read it as would
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> @beeratolius:quassel.io: And this worked?
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> spoiler: if it did it won't in 5 minutes
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> What's weird is that the Feather Wallet is reporting errors in the libwallet.log file, but the timings are like 1hour and 50 minutes out of sync wtf
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> LMAO
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> THE CLOCK STRIKES AGAIN
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> Are you on windows?
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> Well it went from 3.77M to very close to 0, very fast
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> the new new wallet
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> God no
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> I'm not insane
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> @beeratolius:quassel.io: yeah I maen
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> a new wallet doesn't have to sync at all
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> that helps
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> @beeratolius:quassel.io: bear with me sir, im gonna ask you only once, is your clock synced ?
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> DUDE OMG OM GOMG
-
br-m
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> the new new account synced with 0 difficulties in 5-10 minutes
-
br-m
<beeratolius:quassel.io> I'll try this new new account in Monero now
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> @plowsof:matrix.org: what kind of hell-binding curse ritual do I need to achieve to get ban rights in this channel
-
br-m

<beeratolius:quassel.io> this is so stupid frustrating
-
br-m

<beeratolius:quassel.io> what is workgroup?
-

-
br-m
<syntheticbird> one more word and i'll get mad
-
br-m
<syntheticbird> go in #monero-support
