nope this was a fresh 18.04 VM. then after I thought I might have built the wrong branch (pretty sure I didn't), I tried deleting the entire monero-gui folder and starting over

although I don't doubt that the mismatch is harmless, a single bit difference could be pretty bad if it, idk, were a boolean value that activated some dormant section of code. referring to your reply to my comment selsta

pfft yeah I guess a single flip in the code wouldn't necessarily result in a a similar change in the binary. I know shit about fuck when it comes to compilers

Lyza: It's inside the .rdata section which is used for const data, not in the code section.

had to look up what that is, but yeah, seems pretty trivial in that case

Someone more familiar than me has to look into it if we want to figure out what exactly changed here.
