Halver[m]I currently use the timestamp from the get_last_block_header monerod RPC to detect if my monerod process is (roughly) up to date or not.
-
Halver[m]Is there a better, more precise, method ?
-
Ingecheck block height against some other nodes?

binaryFateGUI v0.17.3.1 binaries are now online, thank you to all contributors
-
moneromoooThank you, contributors :)

dEBRUYNEThanks binaryFate!

monerobull[m]selsta: do you have any idea what lead to the guy on reddit spending 4 XMR in transaction fees?
-
selstaI'm looking into it
-
Rucknium[m]endor00 and I were looking at the mining reward data a few weeks ago and noticed occasional spikes due to unnecessarily high transaction fees. We figured it could be because of "fat fingers", but maybe something else is at play.
-
meropeCan't be just a fat finger, since there's no (apparent?) way to set such a high fee on the popular wallets
-
meropeSo it's either a buggy third-party wallet, or bad/weird custom code
-
monerobull[m]this guy was using the gui
-
meropeOh
-
meropeThen I have no clue
-
UkoeHBsome kind of DDOS? i.e. a block full of very-high-fee txs caused observers to think the network fee is very high
-
dEBRUYNEmerope: You can set a high fee on the GUI wallet
-
selstano it's someone trolling with a remote node most likely, but it doesn't seem widespread, saw only one tx with high fee on the blockchain
-
meropedEBRUYNE: sure, but even if you pick the highest multiplier (144x? or something like that), it would still be 144 * 0.0001 xmr (rounding up) - still nowhere near 4 xmr
-
utxobr[m]per/kb transaction fees over last days look good; like selsta, that seems to be the only weird case
-
utxobr[m](looking solely at highest per/kb values - i.e., quantile=1 - imgur.com/a/8KnErtk)
-
selstait was mined by minexmr so I hope they'll refund it to the user
-
meropeutxobr: you need to look long-term, there's like 1 tx/month like that
-
neXPer[m]Why the post on reddit got deleted?
-
gingeropolousdon't wanna scare ppl till we know whats up
-
BigmenPixel[m]<binaryFate> "GUI v0.17.3.1 binaries are now..." <- Cool! But it's sad that [#3808](monero-project/monero-gui #3808) wasn't pushed ahead of release.
-
selstacould you approve it?
-
BigmenPixel[m]<selsta> "could you approve it?" <- Are you talking to me?
-
selstayes :D
-
BigmenPixel[m]selsta: Done
-
selstaok will be included in the next release
-
BigmenPixel[m]selsta: OK, thank you
