Hey y'all, have any of you guys made an attempt to reclaim the monero snapcraft package? It hasn't been updated in 4.5 years. I would be willing to try filing a dispute and continue maintaining it if no else desires to.

I know a lot of people when wanting to download packages will open up their favorite package manager and try installing the first package will the name of the thing that they want

If you look at snapcraft.io/monero, you can see that the most popular distribution that has the package installed is ubuntu 20.04, which is a rather new distro, which means a lot of users blindly installing Monero 0.11

Wouldn't a maintainer still be able to publish a working monero snap regardless (i.e. in the repo's current form)?

hey everyone, Ive just downloaded the gui wallet to solo mine but everytime i press 'start mining' it comes back with an error saying 'couldnt start mining'. I've checked the log and it says 'specify wallet for start_mining' how do I resolve this?

woodser: I was reading this issue: monero-ecosystem/monero-javascript #58 does this also apply to createWalletFull? Can I only open one wallet at a time? parallel until close is called. What happens when close doesnt happen and the program crashes? github.com/monero-ecosystem/monero-…in/cpp/monero_wasm_bridge.cpp#L1221 it is just a clean up to prevent memory leaks, right? so it should be no big deal.

i don't know if 6410 has been discussed in more detail. it seems to be at this standstill of "obviously we shouldn't make txs distinguishable" and "but muh DeFi!"

but then there's also this weird in-between perspective of "well, if we remove the ability of users to write things into the chain, then the functionality of stuff will be entirely dependent on devs"

which is somewhat addressed with the notion of allowing users access to some block header space, so that user-data can be stored by miners in some block header

indeed, let's not forget the opportunity to use tx_extra for anything right now exists. So this is basically saying "can you come up with a better alternative, or should we default to a custom tx_extra field?"

well i would lean more towards the first option in that or statement.

if it's not saved before closing, any data since the last save would be lost

ah, that can be done too, by providing keysData and cacheData to the openWallet() config

I'm not familiar with it, I just know something snapcraft related got added to the repo a while ago but it was never maintained
