hyc: can we at least settle on HURD for the default? It's really the best option for stability. Linux has released 5 major versions over the years. HURD is so stable, it hasn't released one!

Jokes aside, if we were to have an actual discussion on compilation practices, not that I think it's in any way important nor necessarily beneficial to have, I'd hope for debian. Canonical has been incredibly frustrating :C

I'm not sure anyone has a particular preference here. I believe ubuntu was used in gitian because that's what bitcoin was already using
