m-relay<orion_midast:matrix.org> can I use monero dev to ask dev questions unrelated to monero?
-
m-relay<orion_midast:matrix.org> or is that just #monero-offtopic:monero.social
-
selstabetter suited for a different channel if it's completely unrelated to monero
-
hycwhat is it with developers wanting to overhaul logging mechanisms all the time
-
hychow can you ever get into programming without learning "if it ain't broke don't fix it"
-
moneromoooBut a lot of the fun in programming is rewriting stuff just because you can...
-
moneromoooSo you need a balance between fun and work.
-
m-relay<0xfffc:matrix.org> hyc keep in mind “if ain't broke don’t fix it” is true until its not.
-
m-relay<0xfffc:matrix.org> By the way, logging is great opportunity to learn the code base without getting into the sensitive security related code
-
m-relay<0xfffc:matrix.org> “If ain't broke don’t fix it” philosophy perfectly fits to NNT philosophy twitter.com/nntaleb/status/1585960585795350528?lang=en

sech1rewriting logging is like "hello world", but more fun
-
sech1full disclosure: I wrote my own logging for p2pool :D
-
moneromoooI had an excuse for myself: debugging monero with spammy logs was fucking painful originally.
-
xFFFC0000moneromooo: I saw you in git blame. Was comparing with what was there previously, and your improvements. Thanks for cleaning that up. Although I prefer to clean it since it has run its course (after ~5 years).

gingeropolousi like the current log system :)

xFFFC0000Anybody is running Kubuntu or any distro with of KDE desktop env? (I don't use KDE, I just need a default config file for baloo, should be located at /etc/baloofilerc or ~/.config/baloofilerc).
-
xFFFC0000gingeropolous: once the underlying framework changed you are not going to notice anything since the usage API will stay same.
