I see old guides for creating a private testnet that use --add-exclusive-node but that is obviously limited, and I do not know if there is an easy way to set it up so it will function as a public spamnet that anyone can connect to.

there is discussion for turning on ipv6 by default, but it makes it easier to attack nodes monero-project/monero #9285

ravfx: monero-gui auto updater checks periodically (multiple times per day), if it doesn't show then it means the user disabled checking for updates, or there was an issue with the DNS query

just for perspective, i2pd also has ipv6 off by default... not sure of the reason there, but i get higher tunnel creation success rate and better subjective browsing experience with ipv6 enabled
