So far I have absolutely no luck on reproducing the GUI hand during closing. After about 7 tries with more than 5h run time.
-
selsta
mj-xmr[m]: which Windows version?
-
mj-xmr[m]
selsta: 7
-
selsta
mj-xmr[m]: ok, I used Windows 11, don't know if that makes a difference
-
mj-xmr[m]
I'll take a look on my Win10 laptop. Perhaps the one I bought recently has 11 even.
-
selsta
it definitely only seems to happen on some systems
-
moneromooo
Yeah. The Windows ones :D
-
selsta
I mean even on Windows
-
mj-xmr[m]
On Larger Windows, to be precise :)

Hey
-
nahnahnah722828[
Monero GUI dev in here ?
-
reeemuru[m]
nahnahnah722828: yes this where Monero GUI devs hang out. Whats up?
-
nahnahnah722828[
reeemuru[m]: What are the odds of a monero dev getting bribed/threatened by a government to sneakily put malicious software into the monero GUI?
-
nahnahnah722828[
Do we have people auditing the code 24/7?
-
reeemuru[m]
nahnahnah722828[: The code is open source. What does this have to do with dev work?
-
nikg83[m]
nahnahnah722828[: No
-
nahnahnah722828[
<reeemuru[m]> "The code is open source. What..." <- Whats in store next for the Monero GUI ? Like what’s on the roadmap
-
nikg83[m]
nahnahnah722828[: P2pool mining integration
-
reeemuru[m]
nahnahnah722828: not sure about that. I just fix look through issues and fix what I can. You could look through open and merged prs to get an idea of what is being worked on and released. Pretty sure they put a roadmap on the website, probably just not updated with recent activiity yet.
-
nahnahnah722828[
reeemuru[m]: alright, by the way apart from leaking IPs, what’s the worst thing that could happen by running the Monero GUI by connecting to someone else’s node ?
-
reeemuru[m]
nahnahnah722828: depends on your threat model. I'm mostly a dev and researcher so I connect to them all the time. If you are dissident in a failed state or dictatorship then you would probably not want to do that. The gui has socks5 proxy but everyone always says to run your own node.
-
selsta
nahnahnah722828[: they can do things to reduce your privacy, they can set a fee that is too high
-
nahnahnah722828[
reeemuru[m]: I’m in Canada
-
nahnahnah722828[
Anyway a malicious actor running a node could steal funds?
-
selsta
reeemuru[m]: did you check if the fee selection still works properly with 3868?
-
selsta
design wise everything looks good, just don't want to introduce a bug there
-
reeemuru[m]
I think you should read Mastering Monero, Zero to Monero (if you want more tech stuff) and watch "Breaking Monero" on YouTube. This will answer most questions about the project.
-
selsta
nahnahnah722828[: no, they can't steal funds, but like I said they can set it so that you pay a too high fee and the funds get lost to the network
-
nahnahnah722828[
reeemuru[m]: I’ve read it all already
-
nikg83[m]
nahnahnah722828[: Afaik, not possible
-
nahnahnah722828[
nikg83[m]: Thank you
-
nahnahnah722828[
<selsta> "nahnahnah722828: no, they can'..." <- Could they make the fee something ridiculous like a $50,000 fee ?
-
nahnahnah722828[
If they do, do you have any way of seeing it before sending the transaction
-
selsta
yes you see the fee before sending
