Hi everybody! I am having a lot of trouble to make the Monero GUI to work. It seem to be a connexion problem. Did download the whole blockchain and wanted to use it as a node but seem like you have to have open ports like 18080 wish it wont be possible for me. Them try the GUI in simple mode and have the same error with the 18080 port. Did tried to trouble shout myself for 3 days now without success. Thank you!

moneromooo
Assuming you mean opening it for ingress, it doesn't need to. You can have it run without it with close to no degradation.
-
mystery88[m]
<moneromooo> "Assuming you mean opening it for..." <- The daemon thing can't connect and sync. I cannot see my latest transaction
-
moneromooo
Is the daemon stopping by itself ?
-
mystery88[m]
How can i know that?
-
moneromooo
Start it, wait 30 seconds, check if it's still running.
-
mystery88[m]
I have the bitmonero .log open to see what is going on. No incoming connections - check firewalls/routers allow port 18080
-
mystery88[m]
i have the advance mode running as a full node
-
mystery88[m]
Thanks by the way! Much appreciated! Hopefully something is going to work...

I use NextDNS and moneroseeds is not blocked and behind NordVPN. Thanks!

A few days ago when the blockchain did finished downloading, i was able to mine! Then sent some XMR to my wallet and never been able to see in the wallet. Cannot even mine anymore...

Is this is a problem??

Did you answer my question ? There's always the possibility that you did and it got eaten by my ignore settings.

moneromooo: How can i check that? Thanks!

< moneromooo> Start it, wait 30 seconds, check if it's still running.
-
mystery88[m]
I did stop the daemon and started again and seem to work not
-
mystery88[m]
it is downloading the remaining blocks!
-
mystery88[m]
π
-
moneromooo
Oh, good.
-
moneromooo
Is the blockchain on a spinning disk ? If so, it is *much* slower than on a SSD.
-
mystery88[m]
I got 12 out now!!!
-
mystery88[m]
yipi!
-
mystery88[m]
moneromooo: My internal SSD is very fast
-
mystery88[m]
The blockchain is on it
-
mystery88[m]
Did change my DNS for Quad9. Looks like NextDNS was the problem. No clue why because is was working and did look @ NextDNS logs and noting from Monero was blocked....
-
mystery88[m]
Now waiting for daemon to sync......
-
mystery88[m]
I can mine again now but cant see my lastest transaction a few days ago...

<moneromooo> "< moneromooo> Is the daemon..." <- I don't think so because i can press the stop daemon button
-
moneromooo
Transactions that can't get mined in 24 hours are dropped. Your transaction probably never made it anywhere.
-
moneromooo
Does it appear on, say, xmrchain.net ?
-
moneromooo
If yes, you'll see it eventually. If not, it likely never made it to the internet, and you can redo it
-
mystery88[m]
<moneromooo> "Transactions that can't get..." <- It was from an Exchange to my Monero GUI wallet
-
-
mystery88[m]
Still.....
-
mystery88[m]
<moneromooo> "Does it appear on, say, xmrchain..." <- will check that out! Thanks!

mystery88[m]
Stil not showing up in the GUI
-
moneromooo
You gotta wait till it's synced to at least that height.
-
mystery88[m]
moneromooo: ok, thanks! why downloading the remaining blocks only took a few secomds?
-
mystery88[m]
s/secomds/seconds/
-
moneromooo
Probably because there were very few.
-
moneromooo
Or maybe it took longer and you did ont realize.
-
mystery88[m]
Did restart the GUI, it did download the remaining block (10 left) and still waiting for daemon to sync
-
mystery88[m]
Last transaction stil not showing up
-
moneromooo
Are you sure the GUI has reached past the height at which this tx was mined ?
-
mystery88[m]
<moneromooo> "Are you sure the GUI has reached..." <- trying to check that out..... What does this mean?
-

mystery88: those are log levels, it's not an error
-
moneromooo
It means the log settings are set to show you warnings, except for some particular categories.
-
mystery88[m]
ok
-
mystery88[m]
ok
-
moneromooo
Like anything to do with daemon.rpc, errors won't be shown. Because you can get random shite sent to your RPC port.
-
mystery88[m]
You are now synchronized with the network. You may now start monero-wallet-cli.
-
mystery88[m]
Sync data returned a new top block candidate: 2652142 -> 2652143 [Your node is 1 blocks (2.0 minutes) behind]

this took a few seconds to sync

ok, your node itself is good
-
selsta
Can you go to Settings -> Node, and click on "Local Node"
-
selsta
if that doesn't help try restarting the GUI only
-
mystery88[m]
It is on Local Node...
-
selsta
yes, but still click on it
-
selsta
so that it resets the connection
-
mystery88[m]
just did
-
selsta
are you using Ledger?
-
mystery88[m]
Looking @ the bitmonero.log without any change, same for the GUI log
-
mystery88[m]
Yes, i use Ledger
-
selsta
did you export your view key?
-
mystery88[m]
no
-
selsta
you have to export the view key
-
mystery88[m]
for safety reason
-
selsta
the ledger itself is too slow to do scanning by itself
-
mystery88[m]
ok
-
selsta
there is not much risk in exporting the view key in my opinion
-
mystery88[m]
ok
-
selsta
if there is malware on your system they have access to your wallet cache anyway
-
mystery88[m]
Let me try that them

-

Did export the view key and then disconnect the Ledger. Same problem....
-
mystery88[m]
gosh now it say synchronizing wallet.... Look like i should have kept the Ledger plugged....
-
mystery88[m]
* gosh, now
-
mystery88[m]
YIPI!!!! Finally it was about time!!!!!!!!!! All working now!
-

-
mystery88[m]
* YIPI!!!! Finally!! It was about time!!!!!!!!!! All working now!
-
mystery88[m]
So the problem was because i was not importing the view key and them you have to keep the ledger plugged until the Wallet and Daemon are sync!
-
mystery88[m]
Everything work (except incoming connections) (cannot open port) behind VPN with NextDNS! Super!!!!!
-
mystery88[m]
Thank you very much for the help! Very well appreciated!
-
selsta
mystery88[m]: yes, keep the Ledger plugged in
-
mystery88[m]
selsta: When do you suggest to unplug it?
-
selsta
when you close the wallet
-
mystery88[m]
Alright! π Then if you want to see new incoming transactions and it was unplug, i guess just plug it back will work?
-
plowsof[m]
please leave the ledger plugged in from start to finish - you can plug it in to a machine with 1000 trojans and your monero will be safe. stop being so mean to your ledger, it is happy when plugged in
-
selsta
mystery88[m]: don't unplug it while the wallet is open, it might cause issues
-
selsta
basically as plowsof[m] said
-
mystery88[m]
Alright! Thanks a lot!
-
mystery88[m]
<plowsof[m]> "please leave the ledger plugged..." <- Understood.... π€ͺ
