<selsta> "No, if you open a malicious..." <- how can I personally verify that an open source program doesn't contain any malicious code?
-
selsta
it depends, there are always levels of security
-
selsta
if you compile the program yourself and you verify the signature of the commits you should be relatively safe
-
selsta
the next step would be reading the source code yourself but that's basically impossible for a single person
-
selsta
(depending on the size of the program and amount of programs)

selsta: should i put a plain text seed with $1000 on my desktop to see if my computer is infected ? then if it is ill just move the rest

im just way too lazy to reinstall macos all over again just for this
-
selsta
you don't have to reinstall macos just because you have downloaded librewolf
-
selsta
just be careful of what you install
-
selsta
do you have a second / old computer that you can use solely for cryptocurrency?
-
danielevans[m]
selsta: I am. I literally don't download ANYTHING. All I have on my mac is the Monero GUI, Tor, and Chrome. LibreWolf was the first time I ever downloaded something out of my comfort zone
-
danielevans[m]
I don't, I do everything on this computer where I hold all of my xmr net worth
-
selsta
ok, don't worry about librewolf
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Well then all you need to do is research librewolf's development
-

What it branched off of, or what they add to each Firefox release

Librewolf should be a good browser, with better privacy than Firefox or chromium.

But I havent personally read the code for the changes that they make to Firefox to ensure there isnt anything nasty. I assume there is none as it is a recommended replacement to firefox. Personally, id use libre > Firefox

On android I use mull > Firefox.
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Librewolf is the closest to mull on desktop

That's exactly why I downloaded it in the first place. But then I thought to myself, since it such as small dev team and a small project, how easily it would be for a dev to sneakily inject malicious code
