Ah ok, is it a good idea security wise to use Monero GUI v0.17.3.2 though?
-
BigmenPixel[m]
ForeverNoob[m]: There doesn't seem to be any other choice.
-
ForeverNoob[m]
It seems there already have been commits:
LedgerHQ/app-monero #110
-
ForeverNoob[m]
<BigmenPixel[m]> "There doesn't seem to be any..." <- A warning would have been nice though.

<ForeverNoob[m]> "A warning would have been nice..." <- I'm just the maintainer of org.getmonero.Monero on flathub)
-
ForeverNoob[m]
Yeah, it wasn't really directed to you.

<ForeverNoob[m]> "A warning would have been nice..." <- Go ping ledger to hurry with their update.
-
ofrnxmr[m]
August 13 it becomes mandatory
-
selsta
ForeverNoob[m]: we do have a warning on the reddit post and we didn't activate the auto updater yet for this reason
-
selsta
but it's difficult to reach all users
-
ForeverNoob[m]
<selsta> "ForeverNoob: we do have a..." <- IIRC OG Bitcoin wallet had a feature where messages could be posted to all nodes (not sure what it was called). Adding such a feature for breaking changes such as this could be an idea.

I'm glad I discovered this a bit earlier (my VPN subscription is running out in a few days), but users that need to use their funds are pretty much SOL. So IMO this should be like its own stickied thread on the subreddit instead of a post.
-
ForeverNoob[m]
Then again, I'm also glad that I'm treating the entire cryptocurrency experience like the "Linux of money", so technically superior but in terms of usability a bit of a nightmare :p
-
selsta
users that need to use their funds can simply downgrade again, only problem is when using a package manager
-
ForeverNoob[m]
Doesn't downgrading come with security implications though?
-
selsta
no
-
selsta
or what do you think about?
-
selsta
using v0.17.3.2 for a couple more days does not have security implications
-
ForeverNoob[m]
As in: Were there any security bugfixes that got fixed from last stable version to current? Also, are all security bugs listed in bugfixes?
-
ForeverNoob[m]
(Or I guess rather between commits `189d30ad2d929d7cfd217cd2c62abd599e15160b17ea46ed990a9fe0f02984ab` and `5896a0147965d2c256891649e4a3c2b9475733fc50b690ed21534f90e5e4dd55`)
-
selsta
there were multisig related security fixes but ledger doesn't support multisig in the first place

just joined, so apologize if this has been asked before. But my understanding is that the monero miner is constantly trying to build a sequence of programs that will complete the next blockchain. Is there a way to see the current state of the program it is working on? I'm looking for an output that looks... (full message at

selsta
no such thing exists currently and displaying the current code state probably kills hashrate
-
klingon1959[m]
I'm sure it would, but it would be instructive to those of us that are curious
-
klingon1959[m]
So what I'm looking for is the the current code state?
-
moneromooo
In case you do not realize, those programs will run in much less than a second. So any state you get will be close to random, based off when exactly you interrupt it.

selsta: What was your remote node again?

ForeverNoob[m]: clearnet or onion?

ForeverNoob[m]
clearnet

selsta1 exists too but that's on a lower spec VPS
