I created a new address, asked someone to send XMR to it. monerod was synced, the wallet was still several thousand blocks behind the net. Now I can't see that address nor the XMR so either something went wrong with the app, or I am being scammed.

the first 10,000 sub addresses are checked in the monero gui for funds, when your wallet is fully synced it will show , otherwise your balance remains 0 until is syncs

the sub addresses are deterministic , if you click create new .. eventually you will see the address you sent your friend

thx, that clarifies a lot, perhaps I assumed I have received nothing, because on my smartphone I haven't seen that address or the transaction and it has access to the same wallet

interesting, lets wait until its fully synced before figuring it out, as long as the main wallet address matches (beginning with 4) it's the same wallet on your phone / gui

the subaddress that you sent your friend is in your account list? and we're using the latest version of the gui (>0.18.x.x) settings -> info)

does your friend have the transaction id ?

0.17.3.0 (I'm using whonix, which is based on debian stable -.-). I have asked for TXID, waiting for reply. As to the address visibility, nope, still not visible after synchro.
