<chch3003:monero.social> Hello! Trying to mine on my Macbook M1 Max with P2pool Mini from official GUI but it crashes directly with "Timed out, local node is not responding after 120 seconds. Please check your wallet and daemon log for errors. You can also try to start monerod manually. Exiting p2pool. Please check that port 18083 is available." Any idea what I can do?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Check to ensure your node is running, synced, and accessible
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> Yes yes, it's running, synced etc. I had a bad experience with Macbook intel also, so I guess P2Pool mining feature is just broken on Mac.

<ofrnxmr:monero.social> does it load up correctly?
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> With solo it works but not p2pool
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> did you follow instructions in error?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Stop the node, and restart it, ensuring 18083 is enabled
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> yes
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> I am a dev
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> So is 18083 accessible
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> So why u havent explained what youve done -_-
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> I assume youve
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> 1. Tried the p2pool binary
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> 2. Tried running node and p2pool without GUI and
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> 3. Failed at both
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> I am just using the GUI
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Ok well use the binaries and let me know if it works
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> --zmq-pub tcp://127.0.0.1:18083
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> you need this flag on monerod^
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> P2pool process starts on 49609 but it kills monerod
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> stop using gui. Use the daemons. Get some logs, report back
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Also, have you checked monero repo for issues / prs/ commits regarding m1 max
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> Well, my goal was just to check if I can mine on my Macook easily, while doing something else
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> I didn't check the repo
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> I was expecting ppl here to tell that it is a known issue
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Youre a dev
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Id think youd checked the issues before asking someone else to...
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> *I am a lazy dev
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> There arent many mac users in dev, so.. yhose who can test or work on it are few and far between.
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> Ha ok
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Afaik it wotks.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> so, user error..?
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> I can dig if it's really important, but I just wanted to test the mining feature
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> im Looking for relevant issue.,
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> But, it you were half as lazy, and download the binaries
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> and confirm its not working
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Would be awesome

m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> You must use your main wallet address, beginjing with 4*
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> ok
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> Ok solved it! I had to start the daemon with `--zmq-pub tcp://127.0.0.1:18083` as you said. I am doing it directly from GUI. Then P2Pool mini works flawlessly.
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> Without ZMQ flag, starting mining makes monerod to crash.
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> Would be nice to tell the user to the open zmq in a popup when starting mining
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> I think it shoukd be automatic.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> thanks for reporting and confirming workaround
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> Yes I guess daemon should be restarted automatically with zmq if not already open
-
moneromooo
FWIW there was a crash due to some zmq stuff that got fixed recently. 9052.
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> By the way, should I fill P2Pool Startup Flags input on GUI settings to provide my wallet address, or is it automatic?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> I.. assume.. it to be automatic.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> I dont mine with a gui though.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> so, personally, i dont know
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> I guess p2pool would not have start without an address
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> An other feedback, would be cool to display p2pool logs in GUI log panel
-
sech1
The cmd line you posted for p2pool has wallet starting with 8..., this will not work
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> Yes yes, ofrnxmr told me
-
sech1
You should also run the latest Monero binaries, we fixed issues with Apple silicon recently
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> I run latest GUI
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Which version are you running?
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> You don't believe me lol
-
m-relay
<chch3003:monero.social> 0.18.3.1
-
sech1
I'm on the phone so can't check if
monero-project/monero #9027 is in 0.18.3.1
-
sech1
If it's not, you need to build your own binaries
-
selsta
the Apple Silicon changes are not yet included in the last release
-
sech1
IIRC it only solved self-built binaries crashing
-
sech1
Official release should be fine
