just watching my watt meter. power use goes up ~30W just from my laptop display

I started to ssh in from termux to try to keep power usage down 😅. My laptop is already old and inefficient enough, and chokes up when I open the lid while mining lolol

Does the power efficiency of laptop components mean that laptops in general get better hash/watt than desktops? Obviously they are poorer at removing heat so maybe this efficiency comes at a cost of increased component degradation

Im not sure about laptops, but android pulling 600h/s on 5w is pretty great IMO.

500w gets you 60kh

garth: generally yes. laptop chips are targeted at lower power levels than desktop, already. power efficiency decreases with increasing voltage, so there's quite a difference

and the efficiency gain is even greater for phone chips

the flipside is lower peak perf

power use is proportional to square of voltage tho. so doubling clock speed would eat 4x more power.
