minarchistrepublNew guy here. Hopefully getting involved soon
-
moneromooohi
-
Rucknium[m]minarchistrepublic: Welcome! Do you have any specific research areas you are interested in?
-
minarchistrepublMaybe I'm in the wrong room specifically
-
minarchistrepublI'd be most interested in miming and possibly running a node but imba noon at this point
-
moneromoooHere is for research, #monero-dev for coding.
-
moneromoooBy "involved", what do you mean ? Your last line implies you just want to use monero...
-
Rucknium[m]minarchistrepublic: Go to #monero:monero.social and #monero-community:monero.social
-
minarchistrepubl<moneromooo> "By "involved", what do you mean..." <- I thought mining helps the overall network by verifying transactions? And adding more nodes would also strengthen the network? Is that incorrect? I thought just using monero meant buying andnd spending it
-
moneromoooYes. More nodes make the network stronger.
-
moneromoooUsing it means using a node though.
-
moneromoooIf you're using someone else's, you're setting yourself up to be scammed at some point. It's like using someone else's dildo. They may claim it's been thoroughly cleaned, but I wouldn't do it.
-
moneromoooAnd I use that image because it's more likely to be remembered. Using a stranger's node is less safe than using your own.
-
moneromoooThe node's job is to verify the chain. If you don't verify, or take someone else's word they verified, you abdicate your own agency,
-
moneromoooSo it's up to you. Like it's up to you whether to use a seatbelt in a car or a parachute when jumping off a plane.
-
ofrnxmr[m]What moo said
-
ofrnxmr[m]Also what ruck said
-
ofrnxmr[m]minarchistrepublic:
-
minarchistrepubl<moneromooo> "If you're using someone else's..." <- 🤣
-
minarchistrepubl<moneromooo> "So it's up to you. Like it's..." <- Understood. Thank you
-
someoneelse49549Is Monero immune against ISP blocking mesh networking?
-
someoneelse49549I mean, is a monero node obvious to detect?
-
Rucknium[m]someoneelse495495: AFAIK, if on clearnet yes since nodes are usually on the default port and there is no attempt to obscure traffic. vtnerd is working on ways to conceal the traffic "signature" I think.
-
selsta
-
selstaI think work on p2p encryption is currently paused.
-
someoneelse49549alright. Hope it'll continue one day.
