midipoeti wonder what the effective impact on total supply would be if they did this migration.
 -
m-relay<monerobull:matrix.org> shouldnt it be identical
 -
m-relay<monerobull:matrix.org> youd expect the non-resistant wallets to eventually get drained by quantum hackers
 -
m-relay<monerobull:matrix.org> most likely, it would greatly increase the supply because lost coins are recovered lol
 -
midipoetUnder the current model, one assumes there are private key holders for ~90% (or whatever other figure you choose) of wallets. If all holders have to actively migrate, you'd surely lose some additional percentage (lost keys, ignorance, ineptitude, dead people, etc).
 -
midipoetmonerobull: how would it increase supply? I don't get that.
 -
m-relay<monerobull:matrix.org> nah
 -
m-relay<monerobull:matrix.org> millions of btc are lost
 -
m-relay<monerobull:matrix.org> it depends on how exactly it is done
 -
m-relay<monerobull:matrix.org> a zcash turnstile for example, cuts off conversion at some point
 -
m-relay<monerobull:matrix.org> if the bitcoin conversion stays open until 21 M have migrated, 21 will eventually migrate
 -
m-relay<monerobull:matrix.org> and 21M is much greater than whatever is currently in active circulation
 -
m-relay<monerobull:matrix.org> if they say "5 years time to migrate" and there are no quantum computers within 5 years, yeah, that will severely limit supply
 -
m-relay<monerobull:matrix.org> because it locks out old coins for good, not even recoverable by eventually getting hacked
