gingeropolous: should we close this issue?
monero-project/monero #2204
-
gingeropolous
selsta, closed.
-
gingeropolous
though i still think option 6c would be cool

what do you define as the "header chain"?
-
gingeropolous
its like the bitcoin concept.... basically, as i understand it, you get the header information for the blocks. in the header is the hash of the last block. so its like a hash chain
-
gingeropolous
so you don't verify all the transactions, you just verify that the hashchain checks out.
-
selsta
does that work in monero?
-
gingeropolous
and you reach a "level of trust" by gathering hash chains from multiple peers. it puts faith in the actual chain of blocks, as opposed to verifying individual transactions
-
gingeropolous
i thought it did, last I dove into block header construction etc. because in each header is a hash of all the transactions of that block
-
gingeropolous
and the hash of the last block
-
gingeropolous
and other fun stuff
-
gingeropolous
i mean, i think one could even get all of the blockchain data, and then do the hash checks without verifying all the signatures
-
gingeropolous
then this level of sync would only be limited by how fast you can download the blocckchain and the hash function
-
gingeropolous
instead of verifying each transaction with all those db lookups etc. but again, its probably something a core implementation shouldn't do because its not a fully verified chain
-
gingeropolous
but again, this option does create another user that has downloaded all of the monero blockchain
-
gingeropolous
"its monero, the friendly botnet" :)

my 5400 rpm scrap sync status: 2022-04-08 13:50:21.159 I Synced 2462272/2597429 (94%, 135157 left)

selsta
the last sync checkpoints are from December
-
gingeropolous
that'll do it
-
gingeropolous
i guess the hash chain would be considered maybe an integrity check. like, you download the "file" (the blockchain), and check that it matches the consensus for integrity. and once you have it, you could launch on the "validity" process.
-
gingeropolous
ok this is distracting :)

xmrig proxy is only for windows?
-
merope
no
-
millican
oh there it is, i entered "xmrig.com/proxy" instead of "xmrig.com/download/proxy"
-
millican
thanks merope

merope
you're welcome

Heres a hard problem: how to earn money/get hired while keeping pseudonymous or anonymous?
-
qwestion
Are there too few ppl hiring like this, vs ppl who want to be hired like this?
-
cornfeedhobo
qwestion: there isn't much work that fits into that category. most remote work involves handling intellectual property, and that requires trust
