repoman
is it normal for monerod to keep disconnecting throughout the first sync?
-
repoman

xmrchain.net is ded

nssy2: so is this channel

wen bridge to matrix?
-
NorrinRadd
nioc you can join matrix if you want the matrix plebs
-
nioc
no, I want the rooms bridged

-
nioc
silly tribes, we are one
-
selsta
repoman: what are you trying to do exactly?
-
repoman
selsta: syncing the blockchain with the monero gui app
-
repoman
i am a very big newbie btw..... >.<
-
selsta
repoman: ok, can you go to Settings -> Info and post "Version" and "Wallet mode" ? And which OS are you using?
-
repoman
the app froze
-
repoman
1 sec
-
selsta
are you using a Ledger?
-
repoman
what does that mean?
-
selsta
a ledger hardware wallet
-
repoman
nope
-
repoman
its not frozen it was just moving slowly lol
-
selsta
ok, it should not freeze at all
-
repoman
ok version 0.18.1.2-release wallet mode Advanced mode (Local node)
-
selsta
ok
-
repoman
its gone through 72gb of the blockchain
-
selsta
what kind of hardware (CPU, disk, RAM, ...) do you have?
-
repoman
but it disconnected like 5 times
-
repoman
I have a ryzen 7 5700g, 32 gigs 3600MT/s, rx 6570xt
-
repoman
and the os I'm running is Gentoo
-
selsta
SSD or HDD? with that specs likely SSD lol
-
repoman
and the disk.... is a laptop hard drive on an usb case
-
repoman
I'm using that disk for monero only
-
repoman
but yes I do have an 512gb nvme ssd, a 240gb sata ssd, one 2tb hdd and another 1tb hdd
-
repoman
but those are unrelated
-
selsta
sync speed mainly depends on random disk IO, so NVMe SSD is preferred
-
selsta
I would let it sync and check if you still have issues afterwards
-
repoman
selsta: yeah I understand I'm on worst case scenario when it comes to disk here
-
repoman
but still, disconnecting and timing out is weird
-
selsta
GUI and monerod daemon are two separate programs, so maybe the daemon was busy syncing and took too long to respond
-
selsta
it should not happen with SSD, I don't know if it happens with a slow drive
-
selsta
so I can't tell you if it's normal or not
-
repoman
selsta: that makes sense
-
repoman
I'm only using the GUI because i'm a big newbie on crypto in general even
-
repoman
would be optimal to go without it
-
fragcula
SSD accessed over USB 2.0 is probably not great speed wise
-
repoman
it's a laptop hdd accessed over usb 3.0 fragcula
-
fragcula
Oh that's probably alright then.
-
repoman
it should be those new cyan usb port thingies
-
selsta
the hdd is the issue
-
repoman
but the case probably only supports 3.0
-
fragcula
I reckon you might get some useful rough figures of disc r/w access with dd?
-
repoman
selsta: i dont have any spare ssd's unfortunately
-
repoman
theyre all already being used
-
repoman
i'll do that fragcula
-
selsta
read / write speed is not important for monero
-
selsta
it's random disk IO speed
-
selsta
sequential read / write*
-
repoman
I see
-
repoman
well i'll wait for it to sync
-
repoman
and maybe get an extra ssd in the future
-
selsta
a pruned blockchain is 55gb
-
mawk
xmrchain.net is down
-
mawk
I guess someone said it already
-
nioc
the person that runs it is not in this channel, I let a message for them
-
nioc
