crabwalk: can you enter "status" again and share the output?
-
m-relay
<trasherdk:monero.social> From the 2 log output shown, it's connected but not syncing. Storage full ?
-
gingeropolous
tfw systemd won't shut down monerod

gingeropolous
yay

<trasherdk:monero.social> systemd suck hard.

<trasherdk:monero.social> What did I miss?
-
m-relay
<trasherdk:monero.social> It's early morning around here 😴

uncle_rae
about systemd sucking
-
uncle_rae
that's been known
-
uncle_rae
for a minute
-
m-relay
<trasherdk:monero.social> Yeah, but it can't be repeated often enough.
-
uncle_rae
i hear you
-
m-relay
<crabwalk:matrix.org> That could be it. So I moved a bunch off my computer. I have almost 100Gb available now. I will see if that helps. I started it again and added "status" for this: >>> status

<crabwalk:matrix.org> Ya Ive got 100% now. So maybe it was a starage issue. So I'll wait and see
-
plowsof
The wallet will not begin to sync until daemon is 100% synced (if you wasn't aware) - there is a pull request to enable this feature.
-
plowsof
Here it is for those interested
monero-project/monero #8930
-
selsta
gingeropolous: when you try #7345 look out for daemon freezing
-
selsta
I was running #7345 with a couple other things and it completely locked my daemon, but since I tested multiple things at once I don't know if it came from #7345
-
m-relay
<crabwalk:matrix.org> Should I delete it all and start again?
-
selsta
no
-
selsta
so you did to full close of the gui + daemon and then restart it, right?
-
m-relay
<crabwalk:matrix.org> Maybe I have been using it wrong. Only through the ui, clicking the x to close the screen and choosing force quit option. Is there a good place to learn the terminal commands instead?
-
selsta
maybe try to completely restart your computer
-
selsta
to have a fresh start
-
m-relay
<crabwalk:matrix.org> Ok. Thanks.
-
selsta
I just haven't seen this issue yet where the daemon is synced but it doesn't start the wallet sync, something is weird
-
m-relay
<crabwalk:matrix.org> Maybe I messed something up with the seedphrase. I've checked it over and should be right. I restarted. Looks like I have outgoing connections but not incoming. Although at 100% sync. So, I'm not used to Monero operations, maybe no incoming because its already 100%?

your daemon looks fully synced up
-
selsta
can you make a screenshot again how the GUI looks?
-
selsta
the bottom left corner with the status bar
-
m-relay
-
selsta
ok, can you go to Settings -> Info and share what is says under "wallet restore height"?
-
selsta
and do you have some anti virus on your system? do you use a ledger hardware wallet?
-
m-relay
<trasherdk:monero.social> > <selsta> I just haven't seen this issue yet where the daemon is synced but it doesn't start the wallet sync, something is weird
-
m-relay
<trasherdk:monero.social> I have. When launching GUI, against a local remote node, I have to go into settings => node, click on the IP address, then the sync starts.

<crabwalk:matrix.org> Sorry, not sure if it really matters idf anyone sees my username, but may as well not
-
selsta
Can you click on (Change) and then enter 1, and then click on ok twice?
-
selsta
trasherdk: but is this for connecting to the daemon itself or for wallet sync to start?
-
m-relay
<crabwalk:matrix.org> Im on a local node
-
m-relay
<crabwalk:matrix.org> I changed to 1 and its starting to load now
-
m-relay
<crabwalk:matrix.org> Almost 3 million blocks to go
-
selsta
wallet sync is faster
-
m-relay
<trasherdk:monero.social> I'm pretty sure it's connection. I can't check as I'm too many hops away from my node.
-
m-relay
<crabwalk:matrix.org> It's nice to see it moving. I hope I can still access the funds.
-
selsta
if the seed is the right one you should definitely have access once it is fully synced
-
m-relay
<crabwalk:matrix.org> There's a lot to learn around here. I'll stick around and see if I can pick anything up.
-
m-relay
<crabwalk:matrix.org> Is there a place to go for more basic monero chain use education?

selsta, thanks. so far so good, uptime 0d 1h 23m 9s

crabwalk:
masteringmonero.com is a good resource
-
m-relay
<crabwalk:matrix.org> Awesome, thanks. Will I need to go back and sync that first block? or maybe the first one was zero anyway?
-
m-relay
<crabwalk:matrix.org> ..it stopped. If the wallet doesnt load in the next 12 hours, should I reset my computer again? Or is there a reset command that I can try just for the wallet sync without shutting down the node?
-
selsta
no, you don't have to sync the first block
-
selsta
what do you mean with it stopped? how many blocks does it say remaining?
-
m-relay
<crabwalk:matrix.org> 894516
-
m-relay
<crabwalk:matrix.org> If I get it going I can use the xmr to buy that book😆
-
selsta
pdf version is free
-
selsta
ok so maybe it's the same issue that caused it to get initially stuck.. weird
-
selsta
ok try the following, on the top left corner there is a exit symbol to close the wallet, click that to go to the main menu and then reopen the wallet
-
selsta
check if it continues
-
selsta
this usually isn't necessary but something causes the wallet sync to get stuck on your system
-
m-relay
<crabwalk:matrix.org> I signed out of the wallet and back in, then no change, so went to sign out again and accidentally closed the program (hit cancel not force quit), reopened, and now its back to zero and not syncing the wallet.
-
m-relay
<crabwalk:matrix.org> Change to start at 2 this time?
-
m-relay
<crabwalk:matrix.org> Can I erase the wallets and start with the seedphrase again without losing the blockchain sync? Does it mater how many new wallets I start with the same phrases?
-
selsta
the restore height has to be a height or date from before you first received a transaction
-
selsta
so if you first received a transaction on August 2022 you could enter 2022-08-01 and it would skip all the transactions from before that date
-
selsta
yes, you can delete the wallet and re-create it without losing blockchain sync
-
selsta
you can create multiple wallets with the same seeds
-
selsta
if all of this doesn't work you might want to try a mobile wallet
-
m-relay
<crabwalk:matrix.org> That makes sense. I'm starting again now, down from 3mm. I'l try downloading onto another computer.
-
m-relay
<crabwalk:matrix.org> Made it to 894541 this time
-
selsta
hmm so it seems to get stuck at the same height?
-
selsta
around the same height
-
selsta
doesn't really make sense
-
selsta
I would recommend a mobile wallet, or a different computer
-
m-relay
<crabwalk:matrix.org> I dont know why. going for a light wallet (feather) on a pi sorta thing
-
selsta
feather would work too
-
m-relay
<crabwalk:matrix.org> Thanks for your help. Much appreciated
-
m-relay
<trasherdk:monero.social> Sounds like a corrupt LMDB database, or did you already try re-syncing the daemon?
