It's finally my favorite time of year. Cool enough to turn off AC and warm enough to keep heat off. I've got excess solar power to burn and a stack of laptops and mini PCs that are otherwise unprofitable. An extra 20 kh/s with no power from the grid. Anyone else build their solar array too big?

QuickBASIC, mine is too big during the "winter" months. Summer months I'm not so sure though.

QuickBASIC, normally we cook with gas stoves here but I'm using electric burners during this time when I have excess solar power generation.

Mochi101 I wish I still had gas, but I moved to an area without it and my land isn't big enough to install large tanks. But winter is great because less sun but more solar efficiency at lower temperatures plus not running the AC means I'm producing about 10kwh extra a day.

I'm pretty sure mine is like 14kw (35 x 400w panels). I'm not too smart on the solar stuff. It's barely enough to run the AC in the summer here in FL and way too much for heating in winter.

I ran fully off-grid for 3 weeks after the last hurricane. Had an extension cord running out the garage for neighbors to charge their phones haha. On grid solar operation is pretty much required in FL inside the city limits. Hard to get PTO otherwise. I have net metering so they pay me for my excess so there's that.

Net metering here is great. They're legally required to pay me the retail rate, but the system can't be sized more than 115% usage. I ran my miners for 6 months straight to increase my perceived usage so I could get a bigger system, but it means I gotta burn excess power when my credit gets too high or I might get in trouble with the power company lol. (Because they'll have to cut me a check.)

I have like a $1200 billing credit that should cover my AC needs for next summer, so I'm mining to keep my grid usage close to 0.

You could always add --block-sync-size 10 to the startup flags so it fetches blocks in smaller batches if it's choking with the default.

If you're seeing any errors like "Failed to query m_blocks" your block chain might be corrupt.

Most probably not. And there are only few machines on testnet in the first place, not many around to stress your machine

There were times where testnet blocks were fuller than usual which slows down syncing considerably comparing with the mostly empty blocks that are there

Yup, over 150 transactions for a testnet block is *very* unusual: testnet.xmrchain.com/search?value=1917067

Maybe that was a time where somebody made a stress test, or needed a lot of transactions for some stastistical tests

I would say as long as it does not completely halt syncing be patient, sit back, and enjoy the show :)
