@c​ryptohero718:matrix.org for a non-IRC person hexchat is pretty straight forward, stable and featureful. it's a simple GUI app that works standalone nicely. For a more hands-off method you can try free version of irccloud it has a mobile app and a web interface. you can use it like webhosted element client assuming you are familiar with that for matrix.

i think even thunderbird has builtin IRC client if you are already using that for e-mail.
