<gofigga:matrix.org> Does it normally take over a month to download the blockchain?
-
m-relay
<gofigga:matrix.org> Using `monerod`*
-
m-relay
<gofigga:matrix.org> Fresh install
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> no
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> you are on a mechanical hard drive ?
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> is it your pc or a server?
-
m-relay
<gofigga:matrix.org> HDD
-
m-relay
<gofigga:matrix.org> Server
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> ok yeah then its normal
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> VPS that uses HDD sync in a month, it's completely ridiculous
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> HDD is significantly slower than SSD for monero because the database requires random access pattern, while HDD are meant for sequential access pattern, which is worst case scenario for monerod's database
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> On an average PC you would expect monero to sync on HDD in 1 to 2 weeks
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> on SSD it only take 1 day
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> on VPS + SSD between 1 to 4 days
-
m-relay
<gofigga:matrix.org> Gotcha. Thanks
-
BoBeR182
is there a torrent with a known checkpoint
-
BoBeR182
I know bitcoin does that
-
BoBeR182
to make it faster
-
m-relay
<neromonero1024:monero.social> there exists to known such torrents... only the blockchain.raw file you can get from getmonero.org
-
m-relay
<gofigga:matrix.org> I tried the blockchain from getmonero a couple of times, but always got errors while importing
-
BoBeR182
-
m-relay
<gofigga:matrix.org> Since there is no way to validate the file, im sure its just getting corrupted while downloading
-
BoBeR182
blockchain.raw should publish a sha256 hash or be gpg signed
-
m-relay
<gofigga:matrix.org> It would take a while to calculate that hash tbh
-
m-relay
<gofigga:matrix.org> That, and im fairly sure that exporting the blockchain isnt always successful, so the blockchain.raw file on getmonero could be corrupt on its own
-
m-relay
<gofigga:matrix.org> Tons of issues about this on the github
-
m-relay
<gofigga:matrix.org> Does the pruned option work while `monero` symcs the blockchain? Or does it only prune after the entire blockchain is synced?
-

m-relay
<b4n6_b4n6:matrix.org> alao upping the default download/upload and peer count limits can make it faster? i remember reading the defaults are a bit out of date
-
m-relay
<neromonero1024:monero.social> it will help a bit... will mostly depend on the up/down limit of your peers
-
ofrnxmr
"Does the pruned option work while `monero` symcs the blockchain?" Yes
-
ofrnxmr
"blockchain.raw should publish a sha256 hash or be gpg signed" it will be removed from getmonero.org shortly
