Freedom_Quester
Hi, my node was synced to 70%, then I had to shut it down for awhile, and now it's back to 0% Any idea why?
-
applesrock
Have you checked to see if the chain sync actually stored any data?
-
applesrock
Or if the directories it's syncing to is empty now?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> its most likely 0% of remaining
-
Freedom_Quester
applesrock: ls -a data.mdb lock.mdb
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> If there was 700000 blocks remaining at shutdown, at startup it shows "0%" which meand 0/700000
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> `ls -a` doesnt tell us anything unless you post the output ;)
-
applesrock
ofrnxmr: He's syncing to IRC!
-
Freedom_Quester
ofrnxmr: sorry, data.mdb lock.mdb was the output
-
Freedom_Quester
-
Freedom_Quester
All that syncing gone to waste. :-(
-
Freedom_Quester
Ironicly, I ran the save command before I ran the exit command.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> `ls -lh`
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> just checked the paste, are you sure you didnt delete the blockchain, or sync to somewhere else?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Monerod wont delete the blockchain files on its own
-
applesrock
This is true
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Only real answer here is that you're syncing to a different location
-
applesrock
Is everything mounted back to the location it was pre-restart?
-
Freedom_Quester
nope
-
applesrock
Ahh you're likely confusing the sync then
-
applesrock
Kill your daemon, remount to original, restart daemon.
-
» applesrock crosses fingers
-
Freedom_Quester
applesrock: I meant, there are no change in mounts. I read your question wrong.
-
Freedom_Quester
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> 80kb??
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> You dont have write access?
-
Freedom_Quester
ofrnxmr: yes, I do. I don't know why it's not writing properly.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> It looks like you dont
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Nvm read it wrong
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> What system / os are you running on
-
Freedom_Quester
Linux
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Linux what
-
Freedom_Quester
Gentoo Linux
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Where did you get the monerod binaries from
-
Freedom_Quester
I just stopped and restared monerod and it pick up where it left off this time.
-
Freedom_Quester
as in from from the new sync amount
-
Freedom_Quester
I got the bins from getmonero.org
-
Freedom_Quester
ofrnxmr: I'm using a luks2 encrypted drive, do you sync that's a problem?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> I don't.
-
Freedom_Quester
LOL, silly me, I meant sync
-
Freedom_Quester
ofrnxmr: just to confirm, the checksum for monero-gui-linux-x64-v0.18.4.0.tar.bz2 should be e276f9e67396515f671a08c5438fb1db4358c9d8946ec7ef79b9dda552092ad7 , right?
-
Freedom_Quester
is there a way to figure out in real-time where the sync is writing to?
-
sech1
Can anyone check, what is the pruned node size now?
-
Freedom_Quester
applesrock: ofrnxmr: I found the missing blockchain file! :-)
-
Freedom_Quester
sech1: my node is not pruned, sorry. :-(

<einliterflasche2:matrix.org> hey guys. i have a question about key derivation. I have a 32 byte seed and want to deterministically generate a private key pair from that. it says here (
getmonero.org/resources/moneropedia/mnemonicseed.html) that I just need to 1. treat the 32 bytes seed as the private spend key and 2. keccak256 hash the private spend key to get the private view key. is that all I ha<clipped message>
-
m-relay
<einliterflasche2:matrix.org> ve to to? Somewhere I read about having to sc_reduce32 the keys before using them, but it’s not mentioned on that page
-
m-relay
<plowsof:matrix.org> reduce is mentioned here einliterflasche2 :
docs.getmonero.org/public-address/s…dress/?h=reduce#generating-the-keys the wording seems general. i assume you'd need to look in mastering monero / zero to monero

<anestheticbliss:matrix.org> The announcement hasn't made the news, and whenever I talk to someone about this, they have never heard about it and think I'm trolling. When shown evidence (the public announcement), they actually get pretty scared and are vocal against it. Already happened in a few occasions. It's also not like I'm pushing it but it did come up in some conversations.

<ct:xmr.mx> people are tired and zoning out. You can handle only so much drama, and all the beef between young/old man/woman straight/lgbt religion/atheism vegan/meat is very convenient distraction from topics like this
-
m-relay
<ct:xmr.mx> on that note: the "sucks to be you" mentality is toxic as well. If you see another country turning to shit, your first thought should be "huh I never thought this can happen." "could this happen to us?" "how can we prevent it from happening?" "How can we make things better across borders?"

<ct:xmr.mx> Just because someone has it worse, it doesn't mean its any better for you
