Now ravfx that is what an impostor would claim

<ravfx:xmr.mx> DataHoarder: only if it take over xmr.mx.

<gentlemoose:matrix.org> Hello, what is the EU plotting today. Anything indecent?

Gotta be. They don't want to be left in the dust by the US and UK.

<pcre> Which mini PC would you recommend for building a lottery miner? I already mine on my PC, but I have to shut it down from time to time when it gets annoying.
-
br-m
<pcre> 800 USD
-
br-m
<pcre> max
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> Miniforum that come with a ryzen.
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> Not sure the price, but the main issue is the ram, do they even have good binned sodimm? And can you even set timing on theses mini pc?
-
br-m
<testtank:matrix.org>
xcancel.com/nikzh/status/1996993993960308969?s=46 i used to think that the average Monero holder was smarter the the average XRP holder, i might be wrong
-
br-m
<pcre> I have 2 x 8 GB DDR5-4800 SODIMM memory CL40
-
br-m
<pcre> I have no idea whether you can adjust the timing. Don't they have something like a BIOS?
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> @pcre: Normal PC that come in parts, yes
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> Others, usually no
-
br-m
<pcre> Isn't that set automatically nowadays?
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> ideally you would like to add heatsink to your ram, increase the voltage and lower your timing to cl24. You should get a huge mining performance gain compared to slow boat JEDEC specced timing
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> @pcre: Yeah, you get automatic JEDEC timing
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> cl40 at 4800 is jedec
-
br-m
<pcre> ahh
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> It will work, it just that you are leaving a lot on the table
-
br-m
<pcre> For a heatsink, I would have to remove the case, most likely
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> ideally you want 10ns for CAS (and other good timing)
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> @pcre: yeah, maybe, I have no idea how there made. And sodimm usually have one of there face right on the board too so that might not work
-
br-m
<pcre> Normally, the memory slots are also stacked on top of each other, making it difficult to cool one of them properly. This is due to space constraints.
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> Yeah, well, you might have to use JEDEC timing
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> Your going to lose maybe 30+% compared to proper memory timing (of what your CPU could do if it where not to wait after the memory constantly).
-
br-m
-
br-m
<pcre> ok
-
nioc
ravfx minisforum have a proprietary mb and bios
-
nioc
I did not see a way of adjusting the memory
-
nioc
Or cpu
-
br-m
<pcre>
shorturl.at/504E2 I'm still considering using this as a miner. I'll have to ask the seller if 2 x 32 GB or 1 x 64GB.
-
br-m
<pcre> If I sell the graphics card for 250 USD and put in a cheap one, then the price would be okay.
-
br-m
<pcre> But 24 kg weight. jesus.
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> At that point why not getting a custom build in a small case?
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> CPU is good but I expect it have again really loose ram timing (and that you can't change that because Lenovo)
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> Can't see the price, if the price is really good then it might be worth it
-
br-m
<pcre> 1,975 USD
-
br-m
-
br-m
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> The question would be, can it even beat a Ryzen 3950X.
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> It have like twice more core but it's going to run at JEDEC.
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> That would be a question for #monero-mining
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> @pcre: Ram matter, A LOT
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> you can have Threadripper on board that allow you to do what you want
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> you can have Threadripper on board that have 3 options in the BIOS too
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> Expect locked down BIOS on Lenovo so expect no proper memory timing
-
br-m
<pcre> fair enough. it is a gamble.
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> You could think about just getting a second hand board for that threadripper (like from Asrock or Asus)
-
br-m
<pcre> wont risk it then
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> BUT it's a Threadripper PRO from Lenovo so, the CPU might be locked to the lenovo motherboard
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> (Ryzen* PRO cpu have the option to be locked to a specific board and so said CPU won't boot if you transplant it)
-
br-m
<pcre> to much risk
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> At that level of prices, you can get a mini itx case and motherboard, and get a good CPU to match it (Be sure that the motherboard can power it properly if you take a *950X)
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> Then you get matching memory with good timing for that platform (DDR4 3200 CL16 / DDR5 6400 CL32).. To know the CL you want, simply remove the two "00" at the end of the ram speed and divide the number by two (6400 -> 64 -> 32 -> CL32). Be sur to obtain ram that specify AMD or EXPO in the spec.
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> If you plan to also overclock the memory to try to get more hashrate, for DDR4 you want Samsung B-die memory chips, For DDR5 you want SK Hynix A or M-die memory chips.
-
br-m
<pcre>
shorturl.at/YX45G Just found this Anntminer for XMR.
-
br-m
<pcre> 212 kHash/s
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> @pcre: According to Space Guide in the mining channel : They all endup breaking down
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> it have like 3 CPU boards (with many CPU on each) and one of the board always endup dying
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> So be careful if you get one of these (for the price it's very good hashrate)
-
br-m
<ravfx:xmr.mx> But it's also less efficient than Ryzen (It use more juice per hash)
-

hmrf. looks like my data.mdb got phucked. never really seen this before. zfs lists it with data errors on a 3-way mirror. odd. running a scrub now to see. but if that doesn't gix it. what to do? delete it to resync?
-
dzsigoloo
*fix it
-
br-m
<321bob321> zfs snapshots?
-
dzsigoloo
that would have been great... and yes. from 2021-06. gonna check after the scrub what's in that.
-
dzsigoloo
the pool doesn't even say there are any device errors. wonder what this is

<angled:matrix.angled.rip> I'm trying to sync monero on cachyos, but it is lagging the fuck out of my desktop for some reason

<angled:matrix.angled.rip> barely any cpu or memory usage
