<marioob:matrix.org> How did the network hashrate increase by ~300% in just last year?
-
br-m
<elongated:matrix.org> @marioob:matrix.org: Like price did ?
-
br-m
<elongated:matrix.org> Hashrate increased by 100% not 300
-
br-m
<marioob:matrix.org> It went from 2.5GH to 6GH. One year and a half to be more precise.
-
br-m
<elongated:matrix.org> Was 3.5GH jan 2025
-
br-m
<elongated:matrix.org> @marioob:matrix.org: Even that isn’t 300% increase 😅
-
br-m
<marioob:matrix.org> Well, what I mean is: the network hashrate was around 2.5GH for about 3 years, and since Aug 2024 it started a steep increase.
-
sech1
Price started a steep increase too
-
br-m
<elongated:matrix.org> @marioob:matrix.org: Okay, we can keep shifting the goal post; it’s normal for hashrate to increase if the price appreciates.
-
br-m
<elongated:matrix.org> If the price drops, hashrate will drop as it’s not profitable to mine.
-
br-m
<elongated:matrix.org> sech1: 120% a year, such unprecedented increase for a crypto currency
-
br-m
<marioob:matrix.org> so people dynamically switch mining coins according to profitability. Makes sense, as most are "here for the income, not the outcome"

"After playing around with monerujo it seems that the problem isn’t necessarily in cakewallet’s implementation but that the node is down."

<basses:matrix.org> on github about onion nodes cakewallet
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> Yes
-
br-m
<basses:matrix.org> problem is from cake not node being down, right?
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> Not the node
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> Before monero_c, cake let the OS handle everything. so to use onion exchanges, onion fiat api, or onion nodes, you have to a) run invizible in vpn mode (which would intercept the dns query for the onions and fwd it accordingly), b) orbot in vpn mode and force the entire app over tor.
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> After monero_c, dns isnt captured properly. You had to use the node proxy feature. So onion nodes only worked if the entire app wasnt forced over tor
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> The problem with NOT forcing the entire app over tor, is that cake has stupid features enabked by default (like service bulletin) that leak metadata either to cake or to your isp
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> Cake now has built-in tor, which may or may not actually forward everything over tor (cakepay, for example, is either excluded or wont work. I havent checked)
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> Of course, using external tor only works for onion nodes, if you dont force everything over tor and use the proxy feature.
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> Also, monerujo's tor implementation is absolute garbage
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> So no, its not an alternative for ppl who want to use onion nodes
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> Monfluo doeent make any external connections, so its safe to not force over tor, and to just use the proxy. (unlike cake, which has clearnet service pings enabled by default)
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> anonero works with onion nodes, but uses internal tor (which is annoying when im already running tor)
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> skylight works with onion nodes and lets you use external or internal tor in the latest version. Havent tested extensively though
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> Stack has internal tor, and i dont remember if or how well external tor works
