sgp_ @sgp_:monero.social I just got around to reading that "MAGIC Monero Fund" draft. I think it looks very useful and the rules seem fair and well thought out. I have two questions.

1) I can see two other names/faces alongside yourself as current members of the MAGIC board. Who are these people, and in what ways have they been involved in the Monero community in the past? The guy "John" has a familiar face but I can't remember why.

2) Have you given any thought to the practicalities of the "Monero Voter" idea? How will it be determined who can vote? Will this require some MAGIC-maintained list of who is a valid voter, perhaps with some account login?

Can traffic/bandwidth be a reason?

Yep, it is definitely possible to drown it in more traffic than it can handle.

It could have shut down for any number of other reasons too though. Maybe the building it is in lost power, or maybe some physical component of the server has gone bad. It's also possible that an administrator accidentally (or even purposefully) took it down while making changes on the server.

Do you have more context? Is this a remote node that you are running yourself, or someone else's that you are simply trying to connect to?

BusyBoredom[m]: The Monero Outreach is running a node and since we made the latest update to v0.17.2.3 the node has dropped 5 times. We made the update first days of September. But we don't monitor traffic so we're just trying to find out why would the node kill itself.

lh1008: On a resource-constrained VPS, I have had townforged, a fork of monerod, kill itself due to running out of RAM. Probably not the problem _you're_ facing, though.

And, it's an open node, remote node.

it should be considered that this is a project with huge scope, while monero integration on android could be funded through the CCS theoretically the project would need to find funding elsewhere too

I think it is a cool idea to integrate XMR natively into a messenger. If I was a donor, I would like a technical specification of how the Monero side of things will work as a milestone

carrington[m]: That's the idea. We're now requesting Monero funding for the first stage. More stages will come, but once we bootstrap the project we will look for more funding alternatives

and alternatives have large premine / dev tax for funding (signal / session / ...), monero can't compete there realistically

it's just something to keep in mind

I think it is a good proposal which is at least beneficial to XMR, but I'm not sure it will achieve it's funding goal within a short while

There have been a ton of questions about OSPEAD. I collect some links to my responses here, and I take questions I suppose:

While on CCS', I have sth. to add out of context maybe: I had too little time in September to work on the daily basis (reviews, etc.), so I will ask for the payment not before 15 Oct. or even at the end of October, if my schedule stays so full. I plan to make it up.

Here's the consensus, as far as I see it:

In general, work on researching an improved the mixin selection algorithm should occur. Most people think I am able to do it. I am willing to do it. The exact form of that research seems to be up for debate
