I am aware of Gitlab limitations and the whole migration discussion, but is it not important to allow anonymous contributors access and get involved with the core repositories?

It might not be a pressing issue to existing devs, especially if they are using clearnet or a tor > vpn setup. But that is not the case for new contributors. They get to deal with Microsoft's "love" for Tor, privacy and Monero. Yeah.

I didn't recommend any specific software and the current consensus is to remain on Github

But we can and should reconsider hosting the core repos on GH IMHO

<escapethe3ra[m]> "non-profit association Codeberg..." <- I was in their matrix channel a while ago asking how they manage the lack of repo size limits in gitea. Seems like they dont. I think it is cool that stuff like this exists, but it has its limitations. If you have code you really care about you should probably host your own gitea instance.
-
spirobel[m]
<escapethe3ra[m]> "This was the last lengthy..." <- makes a lot of sense. I compared self hosted git servers a while ago. I liked gitea the most. Gitlab has a bunch of issues and the company behind it is not really an upgrade compared to github.

<ian.niculescu> Is there a solution to antiviruses stopping you from downloading the GUI ? we can't onboard normies
-
carrington[m]
Unfortunately that would require convincing the antivirus companies to remove Monero URLs from their blocking lists
-
carrington[m]
They block them because of cryptojacking malware

<bridgerton[m]> "<ian.niculescu> Is there a..." <- maybe onboard with feather/monerujo?

escapethe3ra[m]
<spirobel[m]> "I was in their matrix channel..." <- Yes, I agree. Wasn't recommending them, just looking into alternatives at this point. We should at least attempt to reignite conversations around migration from GH periodically, as new developments might occur.

Plenty of normie friendly distros out there at this point and with Monero on FlatHub pretty easy to get Monero regardless of distro
