If bitcoin become private on first layer, would monero become meaningless?
-
BTCisMyFavNFT
if dinosaurs existed today what would be of wildlife mammals?
-
bridgerton[m]
<Encore> if bitcoin did exactly what monero did would monero even exist?
-
BTCisMyFavNFT
it's more likely, and it isn't likely at all, that the human species will colonize mars in the next 30 years that bitcoin becoming private on first layer.
-
spacekitty420[m]
Monerostandard[m: monero still does have that dynamic blocksize, meaning it can actually scale the number of tx per day on layer 1 to... infinity o.o
-
spacekitty420[m]
meanwhile btc be having those dumb ass debates about 1mb block size or whatever they even doing over bch and whatnot
-
spacekitty420[m]
it's still faster blocktime as well
-
spacekitty420[m]
like... btc could do so many hardforks trying to be xmr but xmr would still be way ahead on so many things, by far
-
BTCisMyFavNFT
also, more importantly, it's never going to happen
-
Monerostandard[m
<sethforprivacy> "Direct link:
stephanlive..." <- In seth’s bitcoin talk he mention that people will go back to bitcoin if it is private and fungible by default.
-
spacekitty420[m]
consensus will be that btc maxis and btc core devs would be against it anyways
-
spacekitty420[m]
cause they be coping about the fact its actually public
-
spacekitty420[m]
and they coping about that asics centralization being all like since its faster then the network more stronk :derp:
-
spacekitty420[m]
they just gon keep pushing for layer 2 solutions being all like making eryone happey, the cope that LN is "private" while its not to please the crowd that too scared of publicly acknowledging the existence of monero... (full message at

* for lighting = lighting service provider has your key and see everything
-
spacekitty420[m]
using those LN channels from chainalysis without even knowing it, the same way as they using that electrum wallet and connecting directly to a glowie ip address 😹
-
spacekitty420[m]
like fuck, btc dont even have that dandelion++ either, like... they literally dont give no fuck :derp:
-
Monerostandard[m
Maybe, in the future all normies will run lighting channel themselves and gain nimble wimble level privacy
-
Monerostandard[m
* level privacy?
-
BTCisMyFavNFT
mimble wimble level privacy is already significantly worse than monero level privacy
-
BTCisMyFavNFT
and no, if the past is any indication of the future, all normies wont be doing such things anywa
-
BTCisMyFavNFT
they'll be clicking buttons on coinbase and using "compliant" wallets
-
spacekitty420[m]
i have some doubts on that, LN adoption seems to be having a real hard time, like monero adoption currently going way better or something like that
-
spacekitty420[m]
then there's other L2 in the work and such as well being in competition with LN, making its adoption even tougher
-
spacekitty420[m]
BTCisMyFavNFT: basically this yeah
-
bridgerton[m]
<ian.niculescu> Seth is smart he talks as a bitcoiner to not trigger the maxis. Bitcoin will never have privacy on first layer and he knows it. It is just a noce way of saying Come to Monero because Bitcoin will never change

<bridgerton[m]> "<ian.niculescu> Seth is smart he..." <- Ultimately I am genuine in saying I want Bitcoin to make the necessary changes and would focus on Bitcoin in that case -- but obviously I view that as having a minuscule (or no) chance in the real world.
-

Those who understand the issues will almost inevitably start using Monero for spending at least, though.

What are your thought on monero as private store of value?
-
monerobull[m]
Monerostandard[m: There is no reason you can't store value in monero
-
yarg
when the narrative changed to "bitcoin is a store of value, other coins are used for transacting," why was the response anything other than laughter?
-
xxfedexx[m]
<yarg> "when the narrative changed to "..." <- Monero is digital cash and a store of value, other coins are used for speculating
-
sethforprivacy
<Monerostandard[m> "> <@sethforprivacy:matrix...." <- It's ideal for both use-cases, and I've been using it as a SoV and MoE for almost 4y now. In theory it's a superior SoV to Bitcoin, but obviously has not performed well vs Bitcoin over the last few years.
-
sethforprivacy
That can change quickly.
-
sethforprivacy
<yarg> "when the narrative changed to "..." <- Honestly I view this as a reasonable view, and the way most Bitcoiners will get started with Monero (and many are using it today). Bitcoin has proven itself as a SoV over the years, and Monero is absolutely superior as an MoE with less proven SoV properties.
-
sethforprivacy
Atomic swaps enable this approach without introducing trust and make it quite valid.
-
yarg
theyre both effectively infinitely dense, effectively infinitely persistent, and effectively scarce. they have the same SoV qualities
-
bridgerton[m]
<Encore> yeah but muh binance says bitcoin value higher!!11

MikeNarilaw[m]
hi, is it possible to have a monero node which will only sync and not accept public connections?
-
MikeNarilaw[m]
mine finished syncing and then just hanged on "no incoming connections, check firewall/routers.."
-
MikeNarilaw[m]
I would like it to continue syncing as new nodes appear
-
MikeNarilaw[m]
*new blocks
-
merope
The only difference between incoming and outgoing connections is who initiates them
-
merope
But data goes both ways
-
MikeNarilaw[m]
maybe I'm missing something, I tried restarting the service and it says its already synchronized after 3 hours, I expect it to say I was behind by some blocks
-
nikg83[m]
<chesterfield[m]> "does anyone know how to get a..." <- Get in touch with monero core 😅

The node keeps syncing in real time once it gets caught up
