Hi. I am doing some research into the monero funding culture.

That is exactly what I was looking for! I had found some logs here: getmonero.org/2020/07/19/monero-dev-meeting.html and I searched the github repo here: github.com/monero-project/monero-si…te/search?o=asc&p=2&q=ffs&s=indexed but the logs only go back to around 2016ish? Thanks for the link

. fluffypony How did funding work for monero early on? I know that you and others got a team together and rewrote & analyzed the bytecoin/bitmonero codebase and did a bunch of other work. How was this work funded before the ffs was created?

back in the old days work was not compensated and people paid for the expenses of infrastructure, such as they were at the time, out of pocket

there was an effort to get the community to donate to core and people would get different names for different donation levels, oh boy :D

to get the community involved as opposed to the just a few, the FFS was created

I was just working on a thread about how monero was able to fund all of its work with donations while most other coins needed a dev tax or premine etc. And how that leads to a much more decentralized coin not dominated by for profit companies. Id maybe tie this in to how this decentralization allows it to be adopted by people who need privacy the most such as the dark markets and north Korea. When most coins with a CEO talk down on

those uses cases. It's just a draft so far so I'm not 100% sure yet.

I was also thinking about how someone should write about Moneros history also. There is some stuff about the bytecoin/bitmonero transition, but it's been almost ten years and I haven't find a good overview of Moneros history. Just an idea.
