hi guys, is there any way to see how many nodes are online for monero? xmrchain.net shows only 240 but i'm sure there are more....monero.fail/map says 26853 on 24h so is that the "real" number of active full nodes?

No "official" way, it's just based on how many you can connect to I think

ok so then during the last 24h it has connected to 26k unique nodes then right? if so that is pretty great adoption

Yeah, after all, you are trusting the node, "never trust the client" applies here, they can just return data from another.
