<monerobull:matrix.org> lol if these machines really did cost them +20k per piece

<vostoemisio:matrix.org> Hey Everyone,
-
m-relay
<vostoemisio:matrix.org> Just bumping our animated explainer about the Tail emission again since I just published it on Youtube to make it easier to view. Please see the link below. Looking forward to further comments and feedback, thanks!

<edge7:matrix.org> the design/video/pictures are awesome.
-
m-relay
<edge7:matrix.org> The content also, but I need to listen it again with some more calm, to check if there is anything odd (given my knowledge obviously)

<vostoemisio:matrix.org> Thanks! Looking forward to hearing more feedback after you've rewatched it 👍️

<polar9669:matrix.org> Calculated on retail price of these components
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> Well yeah
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> Still not going to be profitable, even if it's costing them a quarter of retail price
-

<wizeguyy:tchncs.de> Is anyone here willing to share an opinion on zkSTARKs vs ring sigs? I'm explaining the tradeoffs to someone, and all I can come up with is proof size and complexity vs anonymity set size. Curious if anyone has a better take

<ajs_:matrix.org> trusted setup is a nonstarter
-
rbrunner
It's a bit easy to get lost with all those STARKS, SNARKS and whatever. IMHO it would be easier to compare actual, running implementations instead of mere technologies that we even may get wrong.
-
rbrunner
The elefant in the room is probably Zcash which did away with the trusted setup. Still going nowhere, but you have to give them that.
-
rbrunner
Optional privacy is the big non-starter for me :)
-

Some info about some Ethereum second layers that also seem to use S(T|N)ARKS:
ethereum.org/en/developers/docs/scaling/zk-rollups
-
m-relay
<ajs_:matrix.org> in most, if not all, these zk rollup projects, the devs have "admin key" to freeze transactions
-
m-relay
<ajs_:matrix.org> Ethereum people view this backdoor as a feature, or "training wheels" as they call it
-
rbrunner
Oh, yeah, for extra fun :)
-
rbrunner
I guess that's a feature of the underlying smart contracts, not of the anonymity technology per se?
-
rbrunner
Probably only one dev going rogue away from total disaster. Shut up and take my life savings.
-
m-relay
<ajs_:matrix.org> i presume. haven't look at it too closely
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> I like the chain link guy
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> Who said only BTC, eth and link are decentralized
-
rbrunner
Me neither. Somehow I don't think it's worth my time ..
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> Then he says decentralization means transparency
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> All while his entire project is built on a 4/9 multisig
-
rbrunner
That's a bit transparent as a claim, har har
-
rbrunner
4/9, really?
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> Yeah
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> This week they also quietly went from 4/9 to 4/8 lol
-
m-relay
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> I believe they are back to 4/9 now but still
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> This is the admin multisig that can change any chainlink price feed lol
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> When that gets compromised, damage could be insane
-
m-relay
<wizeguyy:tchncs.de> AFAICT sTarks are not trusted. sNarks are. But yeah, I've generally stayed away from those projects for similar reasons
