Saw this on reddit (
reddit.com/r/Wownero/comments/1foyt…domwow_implementation_in_javascript) and it had me thinking whether anybody has set up a platform for live streamers that is "mine to view/watch". That has to be a thing, right?

plowsof
Datahoarder has an randomx implementation for randomx in go that can be compiled for WASM too
git.gammaspectra.live/P2Pool/go-randomx
-
DataHoarder
and golang, and also more exotic, has JIT in golang :)
-
plowsof
Rx for rx? Rx implnin Go"
-
DataHoarder
not trying to beat C++ randomx in perf, but p2pool observer has been running with this as the default backend for months
-
DataHoarder
both light and full mode, good enough
-
DataHoarder
most fun part was the softfloat64 implementation with rounding modes :)

As for mining to view/watch seems not very efficient (by design) id rather just send you some flowers/hearts/coins
-
DataHoarder
yeah. if you are mining even baseline RandomX doesn't have the best optimizations
-
DataHoarder
purpose is verification, slow or fast :)
-
DataHoarder
20H/s still "enough" to catch up with p2pool syncing

<sgp_:monero.social> This won't take off for monetization purposes, but it might be useful in lieu of captchas
-
plowsof
There would be people mining the captchas with the 2gb of ram usage secret patch , OR standard xmrig thus increasing the difficulty for the "real" web miners?
-
plowsof
It would still.work for that purpose though
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:monero.social> Isnt that 20h/thread
-
m-relay
<sgp_:monero.social> Yes per thread
-
m-relay
<sgp_:monero.social> I don't see this as a good option in most cases. It fills relatively narrow niches as the "least bad option", possibly
-
midipoet
plowsof: not everyone can afford flowers/hearts/coins. "Free to watch" tiers could be viewed as more inclusive.
-
midipoet
But i guess if the streamer is gonna make jack shit regardless of how many viewers are hashing then it makes no sense whatsoever.
-
midipoet
So, excuse my ignorance, but what is the purpose for for hashing in the browser if it makes no revenue?
-
m-relay
<vampyren:matrix.org> i assume it helps the network....
-
midipoet
There was that research paper years ago that proposed monero browser mining as a tool for replacing ads/tracking on websites
-
midipoet
I'll see if i can dig up the paper, if you missed it
-
m-relay
<vampyren:matrix.org> the time to be profitable by mining is over i my view unless you have allot of money and hardware....

^^ (not sure if that mentions Monero)

<sgp_:monero.social> At 40 H/s, that's what, $0.37 for an entire year of nonstop mining?
-
m-relay
<sgp_:monero.social> And that's gross, not net after electricity cost
-
m-relay
<sgp_:monero.social> Realistically, no one is making money with this
-
midipoet
yeah, probably won't cut it
-
midipoet
Let's increase the block reward
-
m-relay
<sgp_:monero.social> This seems like something to me that only works if it's truly the least bad way to mitigate ddos

y u want to make my computer warm , just let me circle the boats in the image
-
midipoet
what about as a better way to track people as they browse? (I know, fun huh?). Essentially some custome blockchain somewhere becomes the immutable surf history of users across sites, tracking people by creation of hashes/blocks?

mining for an entire year for $0.37 suddenly makes perfect sense

<m2049r:matrix.org> No, it's a new implementation borrowing Ledger concepts
-
m-relay
<m2049r:matrix.org> It is implemented but not deployed because at the time ledger did not support monero over bluetooth
