m-relay<preland:monero.social> We wouldn’t usually because of anonymity
-
m-relay<preland:monero.social> And switching to Qubic isn’t as simple as joining their pool because you have to completely switch to mining on their protocol for them to accept it
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> The normal pools hashrates havent dropped
-
m-relay<rbrunner7:monero.social> Switching to Qubic is as easy as making yourself a wallet address, downloading their "miner" and run it. Takes about half an hour. And *still* nobody here seems to try on their own, just to gain some knowledge about the enemy, and speculate instead how they may rent some hashpower from somewhere. Come on, people, you can do better. At least I hope.
-
m-relay<rbrunner7:monero.social> You would also see *firsthand* how they currently mine XMR 50% of the time. Except during a 24 hour period on Saturday. Mining yourself, you could witness their "bustiness" firsthand. But as I said, maybe spending half an hour to get that knowledge is asking too much. After all, those Qubic people are just a bunch of lying crazies. Honest.
-
m-relay<rbrunner7:monero.social> *burstiness
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> I'm guilty of not even attempting yet, though ive been meaning to. Just got distracted testing fcmp and need to see about setting up a vm or something
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> But be realistic. 9/10 peopke here dont even mine xmr
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> 0-1 community members (not incl devs) people even tried to test fcmp before propogating the fud about delays
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> 0-1 community members (not incl devs) had even tried to test fcmp before propogating the fud about delays
-
m-relay<rbrunner7:monero.social> Sure. I proud myself about being realistic most of the time :) And I think I understand the psychology governing the current situation: For years there has been one grandiose claim after the other how somebody will "attack", "deanymize", "take over" Monero after the other, *always* without some real result. Switching gears now, after all those years, is difficult.
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> I think its more simple: weve always been protected by higher powers, and now is no different. Not many people walk the walk
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> an example is stuff like dnm black marble attack, or chainalysis, or spynodes, or bla bla
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> If some government wanted to break moneron _today_ it would take just a few hours to do so
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> But we all sit around and pretend that because monero _hasnt_ been attacked in a competent manner, that the protocol has been winning battles. When really, weve its never had to fight back, because the attacks have all been childish
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> the psychology around the current situation is: superman will save us. We dont have to do anything. Ccs's will fund themselves. core development will dev and review itself. hashrate will appear out of nowhere. We can just watch. Everything is fine
-
m-relay<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> i'm not naive enough to think that it will ever be a majority that we depend on... but the minority is too small.
-
midipoeti would wear a "user activated hash power" hat. would that help?
-
m-relay<ct:xmr.mx> Its tough to keep up honestly
-
midipoeti feel like i am going slightly insane, cause there are a few QUBICs about. What is the actual QUBIC we are talking about? Is there an official website/sub-reddit?
-
midipoetlike is it this? (docs.qubic.org/learn/upow)
-
m-relay<17lifers:matrix.org> yes.
-
m-relay<17lifers:matrix.org> ibb.co/hqvLFGs - "it may"
-
m-relay<17lifers:matrix.org> theyre not sure lmao
-
m-relay<torir:matrix.org> I think perhaps there's been some confusion between running a Qubic miner and running a "computor", which is a specialized node with some pretty difficult hardware requirements: docs.qubic.org/computors/prerequisites
-
m-relay<torir:matrix.org> Also, much of the documentation smells of being AI-written.
-
m-relay<17lifers:matrix.org> it is, see my ibb.co link
-
m-relay<17lifers:matrix.org> xd
-
m-relay<ct:xmr.mx> > RAM Size: 1 TB (will rise to 2TB in Q1 2025)
-
m-relay<ct:xmr.mx> afaik even dual socket epic mainboard don't support that much?
-
m-relay<ct:xmr.mx> nvm, there are 128GB DDR5 ram sticks now
-
m-relay<ct:xmr.mx> so 20K+ minimum setup cost, great
-
m-relay<rbrunner7:monero.social> > I think perhaps there's been some confusion between running a Qubic miner and running a "computor"
-
m-relay<rbrunner7:monero.social> Yes, and I really wondered how that confusion could come up in the first place.
-
m-relay<syntheticbird:monero.social> even 256GB stick
-
m-relay<torir:matrix.org> rbrunner7: Easy, the docs.qubic.org subdomain has "computor" in the header, someone looking for official documentation might skim that page, which doesn't clarify that computors are not miners. The main site has mining in the header navigation, but I got to the docs site first from my searches.
-
m-relay<torir:matrix.org> Though qubic.org/mining doesn't really clarify things either, implying that mining is how you become a computor.
-
m-relay<torir:matrix.org> "New participants enter as Candidates and contribute to AI training without initial compensation." Yeah, this isn't confusing documentation at all.
-
m-relay<torir:matrix.org> I guess that is what happens when you have AI write half of your docs.
-
m-relay<torir:matrix.org> Though qubic.org/mining doesn't really clarify things either, implying (if you skim) that mining is how you become a computor.
-
m-relay<torir:matrix.org> "New participants enter as Candidates and contribute to AI training without initial compensation." Yeah, this isn't confusing documentation at all.
-
m-relay<rbrunner7:monero.social> I see, thanks. Maybe I did not fall into that trap / confusion because of my background knowledge, being able to deduce it's not really possible that you need a node to mine.
-
m-relay<plowsof:matrix.org> thanks for checking Torir, i can confirm the same experience, you're meant to create a wallet address via the web tool and park yourself on one of the exchanges and "invest" rather than mine / use it docs.qubic.org/learn/invest
-
m-relay<plowsof:matrix.org> further investigation takes you to "This is the main client component from qubic.li. It connects to the backend API and receives tasks to perform." github.com/qubic-li/client
-
m-relay<rbrunner7:monero.social> plowsof: Why did you land in the *Invest* section and not the *Mining* section, like e.g docs.qubic.org/learn/hw?
-
m-relay<rbrunner7:monero.social> And from their own "How to join a pool" and so on
-
m-relay<rbrunner7:monero.social> *there on
-
m-relay<torir:matrix.org> I am entirely unable to find source code for any Qubic miner. The Qubic-li miner repo on Github is only readme files that have download links for binaries. The Alienminer download is apparently only available in a Discord channel.
-
m-relay<ksenia20956:matrix.org> It's because he's the only one "mining". No one had heard of Qubic until recently. He's just causing chaos. If he wanted people to join and mine Qubic for extra profit, the process would be as simple as click&download. It's not. It never was. It's not the point. He doesn't care about that. No miners have suddenly decided to mine Qubic instead of XMR. On MiningPoolStats, you can se<clipped message>
-
m-relay<ksenia20956:matrix.org> e the number of miners, it hasn't changed, and there are no new miners. Everything he says is nonsense that doesn't make sense. Only thing that is relevant is his hashing power.
-
plowsofrbrunner7 i landed on docs.qubic.org which has "create a wallet" under getting started . it links you to the investing page
-
m-relay<ksenia20956:matrix.org> xmrig.com/benchmark
-
m-relay<ksenia20956:matrix.org> This is in h/s. The amount of cpu power you need is immense.
-
plowsofjust a nitpick / ux really, all the information is there, its just that invest is #1
-
m-relay<rbrunner7:monero.social> Alright :)
