-
m-relay
<rbrunner7:monero.social> I understand your anger and your frustration, monerobull, but companies that can audit our stuff are not too numerous, and to apply a "**one** strike and you are out" looks a bit risky to me ...
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> If they can't verify basic information like this they have no business in our codebase
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> At least demand a 15% discount next time, this is outrageous. If we were a company we would have sued them for damages
-
plowsof
Let me check kewbits newsite to compare xD
-
m-relay
<monerobull:matrix.org> Lmao

There was another twitter scandal from someone behind mymonero account iirc, something dumb
-
plowsof
Their excuse should just be that they generate these top 5's automatically by obtaining the top 5 most trending posts - they looked at the 1st one, didnt check the rest and pushed it - and they have outsourced the twitter account to someone on fiverr who has been replaced now sorry , anyway, back to research and the outstanding bill for 36k the ccs
-
plowsof
research fund owes us
-
m-relay
<rbrunner7:monero.social> Unfortunately, that scenario even sounds a bit plausible
-

•plowsof> There was another twitter scandal <<>> isn't that the purpose of twitter?
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> rbrunner7, they may not be too numerous but we're still very finicky on who we chose for the job. Afaik, Veridise and Cypherstack has always been our primary choices, what about Zellic? I'm sorry but I agree with monerobull, we need to communicate this information to Veridise and have an appropriate response. That's outrageous.
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> I'm not shy to say there are better competitors than Veridise in town
-
m-relay

-
m-relay
<lordx3nu:matrix.org> Oh rbrunner posted it my bad
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> thx veridise
-
m-relay
<elongated:matrix.org> We need audit of veridse’s audit.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Thats what cypherstack did
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> we need one more. should we engage veridise into reviewing their audit?
-
nioc

-
m-relay
<kayabanerve:matrix.org> Jokes aside, my assumption is they have someone running 'news' which followed the 'news'. It doesn't say anything about the researchers we worked with.
-
m-relay
-
m-relay
<kayabanerve:matrix.org> While I have opinions on the tweet, yeah, I definitely don't want it to demerit their work nor our relationship
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> i admit i got heated beyond rational. I don't wanna appear like I blame their researcher whatsoever. It's just the combination of last audit having to be redone + now the tweet that make me very suspicious on there company policy.
-
m-relay
<syntheticbird:monero.social> tho i stick on the statement that there are other competitors, potentially better in town

m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Did you rent from someone who was already mining 🙈
-
m-relay
<gingeropolous:monero.social> yeah i think the word needs to get out that renting hashrate is like not great
-
m-relay
<gingeropolous:monero.social> like, like like
-
m-relay
<gingeropolous:monero.social> it'd be different if renting hashrate meant spinning up new AWS instances, but i don't think you can mine on AWS anymore
-
m-relay
<gingeropolous:monero.social> but i have no idea. maybe you can
-
m-relay
<gingeropolous:monero.social> if so, that'd be a good enterprise to counter the lunacy of the current market. some web front, accept payment, backend launches AWS instances with a custom image with p2pool etc
-
m-relay
<gingeropolous:monero.social> or just create a new pool. AWSrentalpool.com . leave poor p2pool alone
-
m-relay
<gingeropolous:monero.social> cause right now there's no guarantee that your not renting hashrate straight from qubic
-
m-relay
<gingeropolous:monero.social> as far as I understand things
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> unless the hashrate is dormant when you rent it, its probably a bad idea
-
m-relay
<gingeropolous:monero.social> but how do you verify that?
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Miningrigrentals, afaict, has to have the rig "available" and monitors it
-
m-relay
<gingeropolous:monero.social> basically it'd be neat if anyone had any data on what MRR looked like 6 months ago.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> A lot of rentals show their current hashrate
-
m-relay
<gingeropolous:monero.social> gotcha
-
m-relay
<gingeropolous:monero.social> because 50 MH/s ..... thats a lot
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Lol most of them show 0 live hashrate atm
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> During qubic marathon they were all mining
-
m-relay
<4rkal:monero.social> Pretty sure that ours was showing 0 before we rented it
-
m-relay
<4rkal:monero.social> Which I found quite strange at the time…
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> So these are probably mining qubic until you pay them 0.9ltc to rent them (right now 0.43)
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Yeah, looks like most of them are showing 0 today. They were all mining during qubics marathon
-
m-relay
<gingeropolous:monero.social> like this one?
miningrigrentals.com/rigs/159747/?currency=BTC
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> This smells like they belong to qubic. all stop mining for 24hrs = difficulty drops.
-
m-relay
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> Yup. Theyre all idle, which is crazy
-
m-relay
<gingeropolous:monero.social> i wonder how much they've made off of this strategy of selling the cure for the disease they created

<fiatdemise:matrix.org> Because it's not a dedicated mining rig. It's a general purpose PC that's tiny, quiet, and looks great in a home office or bedroom, AND is good at mining. If I wanted to make a PC just for mining I'd save a lot by speccing differently and having a big, loud, ugly machine in the basement.
