Is anyone able to tl;dr why this might be especially good/bad? Seems relatively sane?

<monerobull:matrix.org> isnt all the fedimint stuff "trust me bro" tech?

<monerobull:matrix.org> "Cashu Mints issue ecash in return for payments on the Bitcoin network. Users deposit Bitcoin to a mint and the mint acts as a trusted custodian for the Bitcoin it receives. Think of it like a community bank, but with strong privacy. Mints allow users to send and receive payments from anyone, anywhere, at any time. Whether its from another Signal contact, or a merchant that accepts Bitcoin." jup

<monerobull:matrix.org> crazy how captured bitcoin is

br-m
<monerobull:matrix.org> that it gets to the point where "never trust, verify" turns into "use the trusted custodian"

<monerobull:matrix.org> shows you just how much it has failed at its original goals
-

<rbrunner7> Well, is it Bitcoin's fault if somebody builds something like that "on top of it"? (Indirectly maybe, you could claim that a proper cryptocurrency wouldn't need something on top ...)
-
br-m
<monerobull:matrix.org> yes thats my point. monero doesnt need crap like this to work as private e cash
-
br-m
<rbrunner7> It doesn't look all like crap to me, as far as I know that "Chaumian e-cash" or whatever, in itself, is sound and interesting. Too bad that if you start with Bitcoin you have to trust some "mint", however.

but if you didn't have the 'fedimint flow' (as i understand it), but wanted integration into Signal, wouldn't it be potentially worse given you'd need to integrate your wallet's private key/spend key into the signal app? with their flow, you are divorcing your bitcoin wallet (and its links) from Signal.

<monerobull:matrix.org> Maybe it's out of storage? The new hosting provider sadly doesn't show that on a dashboard so I'd have to ssh in to check
