<c99e:matrix.org> open source? > <@cookingnan:matrix.org>
x.com/umbraXMR/status/2099065824870818119
-
br-m
<plowsof:matrix.org> inclined to delete that as drive-by spam
-
br-m
<cookingnan:matrix.org> @plowsof:matrix.org: 🤔
-
br-m
<plowsof:matrix.org>
monerointegrations.com/#plugins bitcart.ai btcpayserver.org open source, depends what you need. if its 'someone else host everything for me and just let people pay monero' an example would be someones third party instance of bitcart, but you trust them to not selectively provide their own address when people are making purchases if they are running a modified version
-
br-m
<plowsof:matrix.org> use your words @cookingnan:matrix.org, what is your affiliation with that closed source thing?
-
br-m
<plowsof:matrix.org> if you want to drive by spam your services every week just use claude to scrape monero.observer and release a weekly newsletter
-
br-m
<cookingnan:matrix.org> @plowsof:matrix.org: That is not spam , it is my personal project which i had been building for months. I dont understand what you mean every week because this is my first time to post here.
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> you spammed it to mining ans markers channel
-
br-m
<cookingnan:matrix.org> @ofrnxmr: I dont understand what you mean by spamming. I sent 1 link on each channel. The reason being to expand exposure since not every person is in all channels.
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> It is spam, by definition. "An unsolicited electronic message sent in bulk, usually by email or newsgroups"
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> What does the product have to do with mining?
-
br-m
<cookingnan:matrix.org> Maybe by definition. Though lets use reasoning.
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> "unsolicited usually commercial messages (such as emails, text messages, or Internet postings) sent to a large number of recipients or posted in a large number of places"
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> @ofrnxmr: This is using reasoning. Answer please
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> Lets assume it was a single message posted in only the mining room
-
br-m
<cookingnan:matrix.org> Fair point. I can see why posting it in the mining room specifically wasn’t relevant. My intention was just to share something I’ve been building with the wider Monero community, not to spam anyone. I’ll be more selective about where I share it going forward. No need to drag this out.
-
br-m
<plowsof:matrix.org> yes stop dragging this out @cookingnan:matrix.org , wheres the source?
-
br-m
<plowsof:matrix.org> im not personally interested in seeing the source of a cookie cutter LLM monero payment processor but this is a FOSS community
-
br-m
<cookingnan:matrix.org> Bro , this ecosystem is for open for everyone to build. You are a mod , you are not Monero
-
br-m
<cookingnan:matrix.org> Again my intention was just to share something I’ve been building with the wider Monero community.
-
br-m
<plowsof:matrix.org> i have a table at fosdem and a getmonero email address, how dare you insinuate that im not monro? you shared a tweet of some closed source slopped processor with zero trust and are using mental gymnastics at every turn
-
br-m
<cookingnan:matrix.org> You are a mod , you are not Monero , dont abuse that priviledge.
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> Wheres the source code?
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> (there are only a few ways to answer such a question)
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> A) a link to the code
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> B) a statement that the code is not public
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> C) avoiding the question and responding with some unrelated complaints about moderation
-
br-m
<plowsof:matrix.org> D) say the ecosystem is open for anyone to build
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> Such a long typing period
-
br-m
<cookingnan:matrix.org> I dont mind open sourcing the server. I kept it closed source to avoid clones though with time there will be a github repo
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> so B?
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> But with extra words
-
br-m
<cookingnan:matrix.org> @cookingnan:matrix.org: neither B or something. This is my answer to the question on open sourcing.
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> were you asked about an action?
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> I asked if the code was available
-
br-m
<cookingnan:matrix.org> I will stop responding to irrelevant conversations
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> The answer is "no"
-
br-m
<c99e:matrix.org> @plowsof:matrix.org: first time i learned about monero and decentralized infrastracture i was connecting my feather wallet to a node and i saw "plowsof" and was like wtf does that mean, then i joined this server and i saw the node was an actual person. so as far as i am concerned plowsof is at least 1/5th of all "Monero"
-
plowsof
"Avoid clones" lol well there are plenty of open source payment gateways that support multiple payment platforms and currencies, who take view keys. Security through obscurity? Well that doesnt work neither, ask openmonero. Well they did benefit from some plausible deniability saying they got "hacked"
-
br-m
<c99e:matrix.org> wait what
-
br-m
<c99e:matrix.org> so there are multiple plowsofs? or is it the same plowsof just a different medium
-
plowsof
Sorry, i can see how that message lined up well
-
plowsof
Thank you for noticing me, clones is about Torns reason for being closed source
-
br-m
<c99e:matrix.org> @cookingnan:matrix.org: you shoulldn't worry about open sourcing your code. I was worried too at first but found out that nobody really cares to steal it or duplicate it. Moreover its only a small subset who can actually take your code, and put effort to read through it to set it up themselves. On the other hand making it open [... too long, see
mrelay.p2pool.observer/e/r5icmKsLZkVYdFRP ]
-
br-m
<c99e:matrix.org> Especially if youre small or just starting.
-
br-m
<cookingnan:matrix.org> @c99e:matrix.org: Absolutely , i will consider adding a github link on the next update
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> Its also that promotion of things nobody has used or can audit, isnt really welcome here
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> This is a workgroup, brother to community-dev, and if its not open, how can we know its not a cryptostealer?
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> Nobody should recommend some new service from some random handle that spams LLM slop into minibg channels
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> For managing payments
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> No source? Might as well be a fake email telling me my ledger got hacked
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> How am i supposed to know the difference? Ive never seen "torn" around, anywhere
-
plowsof
Use my totally free forever third party payment processor that i host for you and your business, you can trust me, im an anon angel
-
br-m
<c99e:matrix.org> True, reminder that this community probably contains some of the biggest skeptics and most privacy-conscious, security-minded people around. So anything that can't be audited some way or form will be criticised and approached with caution
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> there was a similar sharing of a new website "monerowallet dot com" which is reminiscent of xmrwallet dot com
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr> Both of these services can steal you money, and the latter was known to do just that
-
br-m
<cookingnan:matrix.org> plowsof: There is a reason why i have added a donation option on the site. If someone like my work and project they can donate.
-
br-m
<cookingnan:matrix.org> @c99e:matrix.org: Sure thing
-
plowsof
"my work" back to the source question again
-
br-m
<cookingnan:matrix.org> 😅 I see your intention is to cause chaos
-
br-m
<slowbeardigger:matrix.org> Goodness
-
br-m
<slowbeardigger:matrix.org> Good morning anons
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org> Good morning! Welcome to Apple Park
-
br-m
<slowbeardigger:matrix.org> I was busy yesterday
-
br-m
<slowbeardigger:matrix.org> But wanted to recommend the guy just to open source the thing
-
br-m
<slowbeardigger:matrix.org> If community likes it, support gonna show.[... more lines follow, see
mrelay.p2pool.observer/e/_oDXnqsLcTVBX2lJ ]
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org> If it's closed-source, how do we know it's not some sort of ANOM phone situation
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> ^ thats what i said > <@ofrnxmr> No source? Might as well be a fake email telling me my ledger got hacked
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org> Ah, didn't see that
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> paired with posting it in markets and mining rooms, 2 seconds after joining, seems like some untrustable slop
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> like, who even is bro? existed on the internet for 45 seconds
-
br-m
<slowbeardigger:matrix.org> 🤣
-
br-m
<slowbeardigger:matrix.org> Just open source the thing
-
br-m
<slowbeardigger:matrix.org> End of the drama 🤣
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> nono, im enjoying not using it
-
br-m
<ofrnxmr:xmr.mx> leave is closed source so i can still tell ppl not to touch it
-
br-m
<jpk68:matrix.org> It looks pretty vibed, as well...
-
br-m
<slowbeardigger:matrix.org> Yeh
-
br-m
<slowbeardigger:matrix.org> I think may be the case of "I made it work!!!!"
-
br-m
<slowbeardigger:matrix.org> Then post and message about it
-
br-m
<c99e:matrix.org> @slowbeardigger:matrix.org: He mentioned he has been working on it for few months, and I do recall seeing him post a very early version of this sometime around July. So 🤷
-
br-m
<c99e:matrix.org> Also @slowbeardigger:matrix.org , if I recall you run some XMR pay thing, right?
-
br-m
<slowbeardigger:matrix.org> Yeah
-
br-m
<c99e:matrix.org> I remember seeing you post it on Reddit sometime June
-
br-m
<slowbeardigger:matrix.org> Yup yup
-
br-m
<c99e:matrix.org> I was meaning to tell you, I did a vulnerability pass on the open source code, and GPT 5.6-Sol found a handful of them
-
br-m
<slowbeardigger:matrix.org> I'm aware of a lot of em
-
br-m
<slowbeardigger:matrix.org> Working to patch all of that, improve security and remove unused code
-
br-m
<slowbeardigger:matrix.org> Really wanna polish it properly before FCMP ++
-
br-m
<c99e:matrix.org> Just for the record, I don't know their exact details because the guardrails kept getting triggered when I tried to get some test case or reproduction to open an issue, so I just gave up before OpenAI banned my account
-
br-m
<slowbeardigger:matrix.org> Yeah the guardrails suck
-
br-m
<slowbeardigger:matrix.org> Even when you're auditing your own open source projects 🤣
-
br-m
<c99e:matrix.org> Yeah true, but I found that if you practice the equivalent of "foreplay:, convince it that you are the author and know what you're doing first, it usually lets its guard down
-
br-m
<slowbeardigger:matrix.org> You're not wrong
-
br-m
<slowbeardigger:matrix.org> Sometimes tricking its memory works
