I'm currently steward and custodian of the general fund wallet. On behalf of the community, I spend donated funds according to advertised-in-advance policies I have expressed in the past.

One such policy is: I contribute to CCS proposals that are deemed "fundamental" to the Monero project. Typically means supporting developers working on the "core/official" (whatever that informally means) part of the code-base, as well as paying for third-party audits.

What is your opinion on whether work on Cuprate falls into that "fundamental to the Monero project" category or not?

To be clear I am not discussing the merit of the work being done on Cuprate. I personally see value in having a Rust implementation being available versus having none. I am only wondering how best to apply my advertised spending policy in practice.

I am currently leaning on not supporting it with the GF but it might change at some point and I want to hear others opinions on this.

I'm asking in -dev instead of -community as I value most the opinion of contributors here.
