blokzincir[m]: what's the benefit of entering the password first?
-
blokzincir[m]
Hello. I have suggest for feature of monero gui. Can I write the my suggest of feature to here?
-
selsta
seems like just moving things around
-
blokzincir[m]
selsta: Sir, think of it like the feature we come across when creating new private 12 words wallet in metamask for example.
-
selsta
I never used Metamask.
-
selsta
Is there a clear benefit?
-
blokzincir[m]
For example, when clicking on the option to create a new wallet in the safepal software wallet, a security password must be entered. like him sir.
-
blokzincir[m]
I wish I could tell you better, sir, if we were together. What I wrote to you may sound silly, but it is not.
-
blokzincir[m]
it could be safer sir
-
blokzincir[m]
* is not silly.
-
selsta
ok, if you want you can open an issue here:
github.com/monero-project/monero-gui/issues
-
blokzincir[m]
Sir, custom words appear directly when new wallet is created in monero gui. I don't think it should be. The security password must be prompted before it appears. Special words should then be censored. Finally clicking the arrow option and special words should appear. I hope I was understandable.
-
selsta
but add a description on why it is safer
-
selsta
I don't know what's the point of a security password? The seed is empty anyway?
-
selsta
And what words are censored?
-
blokzincir[m]
Sir, for example, if you create a metamask new wallet, you can understand what I mean. Only for example.
-
moneromoooo
When you create a wallet, you just entered your password already, no ?
-
blokzincir[m]
Think of the password as a pin code. Sir.
-
blokzincir[m]
moneromoooo: Where?
-
ofrnxmr[m]
I think what you want is ๐๏ธ symbol to show the words and a ๐ to copy them?
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Im assuming youre worried about "over the shoulder" attacks?

blokzincir[m]
Do you understand the feature proposal I said, sir?
-
ofrnxmr[m]
I think so. You want s password on that screen - why?
-
ofrnxmr[m]
I dont understand why

Where... did you enter your password ? If so, on the computer you just created your wallet on.

ofrnxmr[m]: It would be better. For example, when you accidentally click on create a wallet, new seeds will not appear directly and in vain.
-
ofrnxmr[m]
How in vain? Why would you not want to see them?
-
moneromoooo
Well, if it was an accident, you don't care about them.
-
moneromoooo
So we want to consider the "not an accident" case here.
-
moneromoooo
And surely if you create a wallet not by accident, you input your password already.
-
moneromoooo
I assume the GUI wallet creates wallets with passwords. It'd be silly not to.
-
moneromoooo
Or does it print the seed, then ask for a password, maybe ?
-
blokzincir[m]
: Sir I love the monero community very much. The feature suggestion I mentioned is available in some wallets. For example, trust wallet, safepal, metamask.
-
blokzincir[m]
s/://
-
ofrnxmr[m]
moneromoooo: This, yws
-
ofrnxmr[m]
It allows creating a new seed before entering a password
-
moneromoooo
OK, then I guess the request makes sense then. Or, better, ask for a password first.
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Screen 1 name wallet and shows seed
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Screen 2 set password
-
moneromoooo
And a hide/show button seems like a good idea. The only reason I can see for wanting to see the seed is if you want to make a manual copy. Many people won't.
-
blokzincir[m]
first password and second the create new wallet.
-
moneromoooo
Well, manual of copy to another VM I guess.

Should follow the same order as cli
-
ofrnxmr[m]
1. Wallet name and password
-
ofrnxmr[m]
2. Show seed
-
moneromoooo
Ooooh, reminds me of the old anti-van eck phreaking font by... marcus... something... could use that :D

-
blokzincir[m]
Yes sir
-
blokzincir[m]
1. Wallet name and password. Pasword like the pin code.
-
blokzincir[m]
2. Sencored seed
-
blokzincir[m]
3. Show seed

Do I be understand? Sir.

moneromoo "The only reason I can see for wanting to see the seed is if you want to make a manual copy. Many people won't." -> soon(tm) users will be forced to backup their seed upon creating a wallet to complete the "pls enter the nth word(s)" screen

-
blokzincir[m]
plowsof: Sir, I believe my suggestion would be better if the feature is in monero gui.
-
blokzincir[m]
plowsof: Sir, should I write my suggestion in the link you sent?
-
ofrnxmr[m]
<plowsof> "moneromoo "The only reason I can..." <- Annoying
-
plowsof
Too many people dont back it up - they ruined if for the rest of us :(
-
blokzincir[m]
Sir, Is my suggestion be exists or be not?
-
ofrnxmr[m]
(I bypass by remembering the first 4 words and retrying until it asks for one of them).
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Yes blokzincir:
-
ofrnxmr[m]
imo it should ask for password and wallet name on a screen _before_ showing the seed
-
blokzincir[m]
I hope my suggestion will in monero gui, sir. :(
-
ofrnxmr[m]

-
blokzincir[m]
ofrnxmr[m]: why did u laugh, sir?
-
ofrnxmr[m]
I didnt laugh, I fixed your frown from :( to :)
-
blokzincir[m]
ofrnxmr[m]: Sir. Are you developer of monero gui?
-
blokzincir[m]
Is my suggestion reasonable or unreasonable?
-
ofrnxmr[m]
Reasonable
-
blokzincir[m]
I wonder if my suggest will come true or not?
