ForeverNoob[m]
Nope, same error.
-
ForeverNoob[m]
Ok, so maybe a different port (this one worked previously though)
-
ForeverNoob[m]
Nope.
-
ForeverNoob[m]
Welp, gotta get some sleep. I wish this could have been a quick "open, pay and close" thing but alas...
-
ForeverNoob[m]
See ya all tomorrow :)
-
ForeverNoob[m]
So what's the consensus here? Does Ledger generally suck and is Trezor recommended instead?
-
plowsof11
we think its user error probably
-
plowsof11
can your ledger connect to ledger live? ForeverNoob
-
ForeverNoob[m]
Yes. I am connecting the same way I had for the previous times, but the last time I opened Monero-GUI was a couple of months ago.
-
plowsof11
what OS are we using? ubuntu?
-
ForeverNoob[m]
Yes, Ubuntu 18.04
-
ForeverNoob[m]
ForeverNoob[m]: These are the steps I do:
-
ForeverNoob[m]
1. Connect and unlock Ledger Nano
-
ForeverNoob[m]
2. Open Monero-GUI
-
ForeverNoob[m]
3. Enter password for my wallet.
-
ForeverNoob[m]
Normally it opens, but now it says that device is not found 🤷
-
plowsof11
plugging my ledger in...
-
plowsof11
in the monero ledger app, with the address displaying click the right button twice to go to About - enter - go to bottom - what app version?
-
plowsof
1.8.0 correct?
-
ForeverNoob[m]
App 1.8.0 yeah
-
ForeverNoob[m]
Spec 1.0
-
plowsof
ok good, and ledger live is definitely closed (but youve confirmed that you can actually connect to it today?)
-
ForeverNoob[m]
Yeah, I opened up Ledger Live again but it's an AppImage so I can close it completely again.
-
plowsof
and youve clicked on my ledger in ledger live and its prompted you t allow it etc?
-
ForeverNoob[m]
Yep, allowed it and there I can confirm it says v1.8.0 on the Monero app.
-
plowsof
ok good , im closing ledger live appimage now
-
ForeverNoob[m]
Also says that firmware is up to date (v2.1.0)
-
plowsof
my ledger is unlocked, im going to open up the monero app, before trying to start monero gui
-
plowsof
this time i didnt see a device not connected error , but you see it still?
-
ForeverNoob[m]
Wait
-
plowsof
so i had the address displaying on the ledger before opening the monero-gui
-
ForeverNoob[m]
plowsof: Right, that did it.
-
plowsof
you must learn this ritual
-
ForeverNoob[m]
I'm too poor to be using it so frequently that I make this into my muscle memory :(
-
ForeverNoob[m]
But... I can document it for future reference.
-
plowsof
it can feel like pushing a square peg into a round hole sometimes, but with a big enough hammer - the monero-gui will detect the ledger
-
ForeverNoob[m]
Ah yeah I know what you mean, I'm using Linux on the desktop so I'm used to the frustration :p
-
plowsof
good that its fixed, i will try to reproduce this annoying situation ;_; have a nice day monero enjoyer
-
ForeverNoob[m]
Thanks, in my case it was pretty simple (so simple in fact that it's easily overlooked :p) - I had to make sure that after unlocking Ledger Nano, I had to also open the Monero app.
-
ForeverNoob[m]
Perhaps adding simple troubleshooting steps would alleviate this issue: "Device not found - Are you sure you've opened the Monero app on your Ledger device?"
-
plowsof
start gui - at password prompt for hardware wallet - connect and unlock ledger - press ok - error device not connected - press ok again - it works <- will see if this happens 100% of the time
-
ForeverNoob[m]
Hmm, I'll have to try that, but usually I have to connect and unlock my Ledger Nano before opening up the Monero GUI.

ZbigniewB opened issue #4096: Two minor issues

ForeverNoob[m]
Why doesn't Monero GUI want to open symlinks?
-
ForeverNoob[m]
As in, symlinked wallet.keys and such.
-
ForeverNoob[m]
Also, annotated transaction history is stored in ~/Monero/wallets/my_wallet/my_wallet is that correct?
